Probably a match with an STI ( have also owned one) in a straight line but would need Walter Rohrl at the wheel to come close on a twisty road. You may be better getting a later non turbo C4 like I have just traded in. Mine was mapped to 310 bhp and handled far better to what I remember the 3.3 Turbo.
But it was a classic shape and had a real racing heritage.

A family friend of ours had a couple of 3.3 Turbo's in the mid to late 80's. Successfully managed to stick both of them backwards into the same field, at exactly the same road corner
Laying a dog to rest can be pretty expensive!
Anyway, the same person has since had a succession of 911's and currently has a 996 Turbo. He probably doesn't use it as we would (ie it gets driven a 6/10th's at most), but it's still an impressively rapid motor.
If you can afford it, and the maintenance bills associated, I reckon you should go for it!

Especially compared with the likes of the subaru!

The fixed price servicing won't look too bad, but you can be assured there will always be something that needs attention.

Never ever be under that illusion that a mid to late 80's 911 isn't that expensie to maintain......
Especially the 930 turbo - which happens to eat gearboxes and clutches for breakfast. If you use it daily - aim at £1500-2000/year less if its a weekend only toy. My Carrera 3.2 was used daily - it cost roughly £200/month in bits and pieces (40k miles as well).
996's are the only reasonable 911 to service - partly by virtue of its newness but also technology.

If you are still interested - theres a nice one here.....

My uncle had one in the 80's, new, ... I loved riding in it at every chance BUT despite him being a good driver (track days, advanced driving days, etc) and quite careful on the road (far from a "hoon") it spun twice, once ending up backwards over a curb etc (supension and exaust damage) once backwards off the road and down a ditch (serious $$$$$$) ... ! Treat with caution, loads of power, massive rear weight imbalance, no traction control / stability / abs / ...nothing
