How do Diesel cars start?
I have herd that they do not have a spark plug as such? is this true?
...And instead of a spark plug, they heat up some of the fuel and fires/starts on that!
anyboby shed some light on this subject!

Diesel engines work on compression ignition i.e they have a lot higher compression ratio than a petrol mota and that causes enough heat when the fuel is injected for it to ignite without a spark. No spark plugs.... although the older diesels used to utilise glow plugs to warm up the cylinders when starting. Not sure if the newer models have them???....

Most small diesel engines use glow plugs...larger more antiquted engines like the old transit diesel didn't use anything, Although there was a lever you could push on the pump on some of them that could get a reluctant (knackered) engine running.
Most larger Japanease diesels, like shoguns, pick ups and vans actually have choke levers.. Not sure what they do, they seem to up the idle speed. But not sure what else they do.
Large truck engines can have a button which operates a pump which sprays an equivelant to EZ-start into the inlet manifold.

Ali B That choke lever is for increasing the revs at idle, to run front mounted winches, hydraulic gear etc. You have to fit one yourself if you're putting a winch on a Landy.
