Integra type R or 172?
Think I know the answer to this one, and the head definately says the superior Honda engineering.
If I downgrade, criteria is £7.5k limit - cheaper ins, ie £600 max, reasonable MPG, looks nice and reliable. I dont ask much!
List so far is:
ITR -
£7.5k gets a medium miles 98R
Bullet proof
Looks nice outside and quite rare
Nice interior
Pretty quick
Handles VERY well
Good MPG
VTEC mmmm
172 -
French
£7.5k gets a lowish mile X plate
Cheap insurance £450
Cheap servicing
Fast and good handling
Crap dealers
V good MPG
Will it fall to bits?
200SX S14a
£7k gets a mint 99 S plate Touring with lowish miles
Cheap to get bigger BHP
Quite relaible
Fast enough
Nice inside - Leather... for the ladies
Dealers ok (apparently)
RWD fun
MPG not too bad
Insurance quite high
MR2 Turbo
£7k gets a 96N plate turbo
Price insurance
Very reliable
Pretty rapid
Nice inside
Nice-ish outside
Questionable handling in the wet
Trouble with the list is its quite well divided into turbo and N/A. Going from something that gives the kidneys a whack, to a NA car might be a bit dissapointing. Think the MR2 is losing quite badly in my mind, but still a good car. Just not sure which of the other 3! Obviously need to have a good try in them all.
Any thoughts?

Mark,
I hada 172 before i got my Scoob. Overall a nice car for the size/cost etc and a really nice interior on them as well. Having said that i think you will notice a quite a difference going from a turbo to n/a - i noticed it in a postive way The 172 cup is quicker but you lose all the nice goodies like A/C, Xenon lights, leather/suade trim etc
They have just released the 182 as well - pretty much the same car by all acounts
Edited to say one of the reasons i sold her was becuase Renault really are s**t at servicing & customer service

was in a simlair position earlier this year when my Scoob got killed, and needed a cheapish car to get me around (quickly) while I decided what I really wanted and insurance to pay out.
Direct toss up between a S00SX and ITR, ended up with a 200SX as fancied rear wheel drive for a bit, and more readily available then good ITR's.
ITR have the reputation of been one of the best fwd and a very focused drivers car (still hanker after one - never driven one yet).
My personal choice at this time would favour the ITR as probably the best all rounder, decently built (not saying Nissan's build quality is bad, its not, its brilliant - my Vreg 200sx 50K miles had less rattle then my current CTR !!), and ITR possibly the cheapest to insure, and a fairly rare site on the road.

Ive just purchased a modded ITR a couple of weeks ago after owning a Pug S2 Rallye, the integra is fantastic to drive and the handling is superb. The best thing is the engine at 6000 rpm the car just goes and sounds like a touring car. I had never been in or driven a vtec car before and now im hooked.
The 2 little niggles are the small petrol tank and theres no sound deadening (sp)
Now im looking forward to my nurburgring trip end of june.
Must admit the rallye was also good fun and totally reliable.
Indy.

I looked at the cars you've mentioned and went for an ITR in the end and am not disappointed..despite it going in today to have a new clutch after 40K
The VTEC really does kick unlike the smoother system on the new CTR and people have asked me if it's turbo charged.
I wanted something cheaper to run but something that was still sporty. The ITR for me, is the best all round package for the money..in fact even If I had more money to spend I think it still would be. I've also forgotten what understeer feels like!
And everyone loves the seats
