Cheap small diesel - ideas???
My missus needs a new car - we have an 02 plate 1.0 Corsa which is crap (slow as hell AND crap economy). Handles well, though (SXI alloys and suspension).
The new car must meet the following criteria:
It must be Corsa size - or 'slightly' bigger
It must be a 5 door
Must have A/C
Must be no more than 1 year old (maybe brand new...)
Budget of around £10k...or anything under £200 per month (up to 5 years)
Has anyone driven anything that fits the bill? What do you recommend?
Anyone tried the 1.5 Clio Diesel/Punto Diesel/Any economical petrols/Yaris VVTI - err are those all five doors?????.
It doesn't have to be really quick, as the Scoob is for that. Just something for commuting/long motorway runs - anything would be quicker than the Corsa - 37bhp I think...In an ideal world I'd buy another Golf GTTDI, but she isn't keen on the size (ie too big). I'm thinking about a Diesel as it will be relatively torquey...
Any advice, folks? Thanks!!

if you want to spend a bit more, you could get a fabia VRS, 1.9 PD 130 quite nice, and sporty if she likes that thing !!!
I went for a 9 month old focus zetec TDCI in the end, 12k, but 8500 after id traded my somewhat shattered 306 in for it
----
sorry, didnt read it all, ive got a mate who has a varis diesel, and he finds it really good

I'm running a C3 HDi, only 70hp but being a TD is has enough torque to keep rolling along. Won't win any traffic light grand prixs, but similarly I can't get below 50mpg out of it, even 400 miles of short journeys in London still got 50mpg, and or 60mpg easily on a run. The thing I like about the car is its a big car behind the wheel, you sit high up for a supermini, and they are cheap enough too. Mine is a 53-reg, 5,000 miles, A/C, most of the other toys too, and was 7800 to buy. Oh the handling is nothing to shout about though, but I only have 5 mile commute so I don't worry about it too much.
