Default Tussles with Golf R32s?

Met one today, rolling start - level in 2nd. In 3rd convincingly pulled away.

Is this normal? Maybe he wasn't WOT'ing it?

Mines a 99, full decat, Tek 2.

I've driven one. despite them having 6 gears, they might as well only have 5 because 3rd is hopeless.

I have a standard MY00, and my sisters boyfriend has an R32 - which has been chipped up to 280bhp - so I asked him if the thought he could keep up now...

lovely motor - a bit disappointing performance wise, although has a fantastic exhaust note.

R32 isn't as quick as many of the owners think- it's another scalp I've added to my high power hot hatch scalp collection- along with the 147 GTA, Leon Cupra R and S3 Audi. I get the idea that the owners didn't plan on getting an *** kicking from an old Japanese estate car- jobs a good 'un.

If I'd spent that amount of cash on a car I'd want it to go quicker- that said it's the ultimate MKIV Golf and I imagine it makes a nice cruiser.

Sounds like you're providing an upmarket traffic light windscreen wash service. I'm not surprised the poor R32 owner found it highly embarassing when you suddenly began waxing his car. Bet it looked nice though!

Use the Queens english in the right context boy!!!

Maybe he "blew the doors off it" (to use an American phrase)

I'm just glad he didn't "**** all over him"

Spelling error as a result of multitasking, also known as drinking coffee and eating whilst typing, totally forgivable IMHO. Gold star for your attention to detail dear boy.

Roasted two of these now. Both blue and both looked pretty good, much better in the flesh than I thought. However, both times were from a standing start and it couldn't even be described as a race. I was expecting more cosidering the hype.
One of them flashed and gave me the finger, the other flashed and gave me the thumbs up!
I drive a 310bhp STi Type R.

I reckon they are going to become very collectable, seeing as the new Golf is a bit of a Spud.

How do you chip one to 280 bhp ?

They dont have a turbo so its some going to get another 40/50 bhp with a chip on an N/A car, in fact its pretty good going on a turboed motor.

A majority of the 'confrontations' with R32's seem to be with much more powerful machinary - in which case it's hardly a fair contest is it?

Not really my car is a lowish BHP Impreza Turbo UK (around 250bhp), what with the drivetrain losses I would have thought it would be close. The R32 was well beaten though.

Doesn't the R32 suffer from the same losses though being 4x4

If the R32 uses the Haldex system (I think it does) then it isn't permanant AWD/4WD in any case and functions as a normal front driver until slip is detected. The drivetrain losses are a lot less.

Could explain why the r32 was so slow though.
