i ran one for 2 years and didn't spend a bean on it (70-80K on the clock)
150 bhp, well equipped, reasonable insurance, good strong engine and good chassis
"a bit Nissan" inside though (but full leather, everything electric etc)
worth a thought.
Andy.

I recently got a pug 3.0V6 with loads of kit @ 73k miles for just under £2k. Probably the best car I've ever owned and absolutly brilliant for the daily commute - performance wise it takes a giant dump on most hot-hatches as well

I recently aquired a Vauxhall Omega 2.5v6, '95M, 91,000 on the clock for £2k from a dealer. I needed a car asap but you could possibly find one for £1500 privately.
0-60 in 8 secs, RWD, comfy, decent interior, massive boot and not bad handling for a big car. Ideal for comfy commutes.

A Starion for reliable commuting, ru mental. Nice car tho, I had a shot of one when they were new and it was feckin phenomenal, miles ahead of anything else at the time, bit like the Evo is now.

I'd say look at a Honda CRX 1.6 16v (130bhp) group 12. £1500 should fine a good one! Or it can find you an bad condition Honda CRX VTEC (150bhp) also group 12.
