Volvo V70 D5 v Merc E220/270/320CDi
#1
Looking at nice big estates.....need 7 seats (don't ask!).
So, comes down to Volvo V70 D5 or Merc E-Class 220/270/320CDi really.....
Anyone own either and care to comment? Cracking deals on the V70 right now - can prob pick up a pre-registered 0-miler for under £20k, while looking at £30k+ for the Merc....so value-wise, the V70 wins hands down.

Dont tell me you need the 7 seats to carry all that red meat from the supermarket
Richard - Q - which one would you want to be seen in ? and residuals for a Merc will be higher than that of the Volvo...???
IMHO - its a no brainer.

Yes, agreed, residuals on the mercs are way way stronger, but just need to find an extra £10k for one
Or rather, and extra £40k for the E55 estate - I would LOVE one of them.....

Will look into it at some point. Might try and conjure up some more funds to give me more options. Also the Volvo XC90, but performance on it is pretty **** poor, and don't need a SUV.
A £35k Merc v a £20k V70 over 3 years. V70 prob worth £10k after 3 years, while Merc probably worth £20-25k tops.
So, in real terms, the loss is still £10k on both, but V70 wins for not requiring an extra £15k of funds in the first instance....
So, yes, in %-terms, lose less on the Merc, but in terms of money coming out of my bank acct, both are the same.

Also, reliability and dealer service is not good recently from Mercedes.
Colleague had an old-shape E-Class (2000) for the last 4 years, and it has been forever in the garage with brake issues etc.
Not hewn from the same lump of stone as my W124
