The Cosworth Merc was a 190E with a 2.3 16v engine developed by Cosworth (though you won't find any Cosworth badges) - launched in the UK in about 84/5. The 2.5 version is the better drive, launched in 86/7 I think.
The genuine ones will be one of the following colours: smoke silver, brilliant silver, blue black (ie black metallic), with the 2.5 also coming in almandine red (kind of pinkish red metallic). Interior will only be black and white check cloth or black leather - no other colours were available from the factory.
If manual, 1st will be on a dog leg down to the left. The centre console will also contain an oil pressure guage, voltmeter and digital stopwatch. The leather covered steering wheel was also a smaller diameter than the standard 190. I think that the original spec included electric sunroof and windows, headlight wipers and rear head rests - all extras on a standard 190 so if the one your looking at doesn't have all of the above details you could be looking at a 190E with an engine job and fake bodykit.
The Evo 2 shown above was a 1990 evolution (this absolutely took the DTM German Super Touring series apart) with the extravagent bodywork and was reckoned on being the best handling rear drive saloon of the time (M3 and M5 included) though it still had a 2.5l 16v engine. These were selling for around £45k thirteen years ago but I have no idea what they go for now.
Hope this helps. (This is all from memory so apologies for any errors).
