We have a 52 reg Sharan TDi bought new, its ok and quite economical for such a big lump, try and get a diesel as the petrol ones are very thirsty and dont have enough torque to move the weight, except the V6 versions but if you get one of them you are mental as apart from the economy what is the point of a 'fast' people carrier ?

testdrove a galaxy 2.3 auto a week ago (needed to go from reading to bristol for an ikea trip and couldnt get all the gear in the beemer!)
got 18 mpg CRUISING at 85ish!!!!
fitted 4 tonne of shopping in but would have been cheaper to roofrack it to the 540 and go home at 110mph!

We are in the same position we have one of the best people cariers made but it is getting old and we are finding it hard to replace.
We have had peugeot 505 familly estates for about ten years they are very practical hold eight people all forward facing and have a boot
we have had 3m worktops inside the car all the seats fold to make a huge load area we used 3 of them in convoy to move house
the turbo diesel one is very fast though not that economical
We have now bought an espace but we are keeping the 505 alive with scooby running gear as a stealth cruiser
we looked at the previa but the seats dont come out so it would not hold long loads as easy as the espace although the espace seats are not very easy to remove
galaxy sharan is to small unreliable for me and that blue oval badge just does not suit me
The espace is still not the best but it is the best option for us
and i am a french car man
