Car for the GF
#1
Ok, it is here birthday in August and i was looking for a cheap car for her (upto 2K). After asking her, she said she really likes MG ZR's, but as we all know these are 7K+. I found this on ebay, what do you guys think ? she is only really after the MG ZR looks, so this would suit her fine. Any comments ? and does anyone know if there are any others out there that i could buy.

I'd rather poke myself in the eye with a stick than drive a Rover/MG.
on a serious note, what about a Corsa sxi/Saxo vt?/Mini (old classic)
something that if you have to drive it you won't feel like a total batty boy. Just My opinion

serioulsy - the guy admits that it's been repaired after an accident, probably by a chimpanzee under the influence of mind altering substances. for 3k plus you must be able to find something better than that.
I drove a 200 the other day (hire car). It went and handled ok, all things considered, but the engine note was very rough indead; and that was a brand new one.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, and not because it's a Rover. Basically it says its a damaged/repaired project. This implies that it has been bought by a DIYer from an auction, who has slapped on a bit of plastic padding. I doubt the chassis will have been checked in a jig. It's repairs will be un-certified, and it might therefore be uninsurable as well as unsafe.
I've not looked into buying cars from e-bay, but do you get any kind of test drive, or even to examine the car and documentation before parting with your hard-earned?
This isn't really a good recommendation for the one you love. There must be loads of decent motors out there for similar cash. £2k Rovers are generally junk - look for something Japanese or an old PSA oil-burner.

Current bid is OTT
We sold our 216SLi for £2500 and it was only one year older!
(and had 70K)
Obviously the question of why the later bodywork was fitted always arises. So a good check underneath would easily show any bad repairs.
The fact that it may have been damaged and repaired is not an issue...it's how WELL it's been done!
A good repair will be almost unoticable to the trained eye.
Also to add the lovely mechanics of the things, make sure it's had the coolant changed at the correct intervals (many onwers claiming FSH only have BASIC services - i.e just oil and filter etc. And if not - make sure it had the head gasket has been changed at that age and mileage....as it will go - question is when same goes for cambelt
