What's good to drive in Canada?
#1
I'm moving to the Toronto area for 1-2 years, and selling my S2000 for about 18K. Given that I'll be driving on 'proper' snow, and that most North American cars are unrelated to the real world, does anyone have any suggetions?
A bug/blob Scoob, obviously but I feel I've 'done' the Subaru thing...

In general, german cars are the same sort of price as here, but you'd be amazed what you can get for your 18k from the US manufacturers. Don't forget, North American roads are straight and not great driving roads hence the amount of big engined auto's.
$40000 canadian (your £18k), how about a fully loaded (and I mean EVERYTHING) Grand Cherokee, the 4.7 V8 model. OK, they are a bit wobbly on the bends but you won't be seeing many of them.
Gas in Canada is generally a third of the price here (only a quarter in the US!!!) so you may as well live a little and buy a gas guzzler.
I am in Toronto most summers and what you do notice is that Canadians keep their cars longer than Brits do so there is not as much pressure to have the latest model.
Just keep away from those god-awful chrome wheels they ball seem to aspire to (bling bling)!!

Yep, I think my cuz is paying around £3k for his 'vette and jeep. He's been driving since 1971, no claims, but a few points. Also in TO.
[Edited to add] If you're thinking along the lines of a 4x4, how about the latest Infinity? FX35, I think.

Infinity is the Nissans luxury brand, same vehicles, but kitted out for luxury.
I lived there for ten years, been back three, and for £40k you could get a lot of car for that.

Have a look at the Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G35 Coupe, used Mustang SVT Cobra (the supercharged one, it also has independent suspension - avoid the others), Used Corvette C5, otherwise not much else interesting from the domestic market. Usual Euro options apply over there. Oh, for some reason Jag XJRs are really cheap used buys as the Canadians think they are really unreliable, which they aren't.
Be prepared, there aren't many good driving roads over there, and the Canadian cops LOVE catching speeders. Good luck!
