55 is 55bhp and 75 is the low blow turbo 75bhp one, avoid the 55 at all costs, it will drive you nuts.

55 and 75 on an Escort van have no reference to engine size/ output.

They refer to load specs:

The 55 has a capacity of 550 kg; the 75 has a 750 kg capacity. All down to leaf spring rates etc

Oops, i assumed it had the same meaning as the escort cars, had the "pleasure" of a company escort 55 diesel estate years ago.

I stand corrected

I'd avoid an Escort Van at all costs.... I have a 4 year old company one (United Utilties), it struggles to get a hill, its a wreck, its rusting, the cambelts snapped not so long since, and the top end had to be rebuilt.... its only done 38000 miles!!!! (Thank God i've got a new Vauxhall Combo DTi coming to replace it!

Honestly, id go for a different small van depending on ur budget obviously, but id go for a 1.9TD Peugeot Engined van (Partner or a Citroen Berlingo)
