VX220 Turbo
#1
Hi folks,
Anyone got a VX220 Turbo?, or driven one?
I used to own a mk2 Elise, so I know all about practicality etc.
Most interested in performance.
Thanks
Bob.
p.s. I wonder if that horrible Griffin badge and v shaped grill can be removed easily......?

Never driven a VX T.
I know that the performance is mid 4's in accleration to 60 and in ideal conditions. The Top Gear team on TV have just awarded it their performance car of the year and Clarkson (who hates Vectra and Signum) was raving about it, which says something.
I also know someone who works for Vauxhall 'HQ' who knows the stories and has driven VX and VX Turbo. Apparently the Turbos do spin a fair bit which is either a good thing or a bad thing !
Generally no bad words - especially if you are Elise-familiar.

Drove a VXT at a Palmersport track day recently and was gobsmacked at just how good it was on track. Obviously if you go mad there was plenty of oversteery fun but otherwise the thing was just glued to the track. The front end just went wherever you pointed it at whatever speed. Not sure if I could live with one as an everyday car but if you can afford one just for weekends then go for it. Top mota

Yep, I had one a few months ago, top mota (now in a Golf R32 tweaked to 272bhp courtesy of AmD/Milltek, even more top mota )
Do a search on here and you'll find a couple of threads on it, and as John says pay www.vx220.org a visit

Performance wise it didn't feel much different to my Revo LCR (270hp-285lb/ft) Obviously a bit quicker off the line but once moving it would be very close... until you went round a corner

Drove a VX 220 T at Oulton Park recently - great car but wouldn't want one as everyday transport, it was pretty hard to get into and the steering was heavy but what a weekend toy! It's more of a fast motorbike replacement for those aging weekend bikers who start to consider their mortality! (yep that be me - I bought a Scooby though as it is more of an all rounder)

Nope, the tweaked R32 isn't quicker than the VXT, but it's more useable every day of the year - at least the heater works in the winter for starters

Know exactly what you mean Dave.
I endured the elise for a winter. Was scraping the ice off the inside of the windscreen in the morning!
Heater eventually defrosted after about 30 minutes!!!
Nice!
