Dont care if its a SIAL, but everyone has to watch TG on Sunday.
They are doing old vs new round the test track:
205 1.9 vs 206 180
Mk1 Golf vs Mk5 Golf
Cossie vs Focus
Should be great - the 205 is the same Miami Blue one that Clarkson drove in Top Gear a few years back.

7pm again mate.
DW - yeah, completely defeats the object of the test IMHO. Like a 920kg 130bhp can out drag a 180bhp 1040kg car On a circuit would have been much closer, if not swaying the other way!

Sounds technical LOL
I have some ramps here and lots of room so getting underneath is no worries.
My main concern is that we put a backbox on the XS I had, but we couldnt get the olive clamp on properly, so it was always blowing. Is there any lubricant/sealant of sorts that you can add to the joint?

it's not an olive clamp on the back box, just a flat flange with two bolts and a gasket, could put a bit of gasket goo (hylomar or similar) on it if you want, I didn't bother and it don't blow

Olive mine too. Nice one re motorsportworld - colin's a good, helpful bloke Powerdisks also supposed to be real good I'll have them next myself!
Jacked that rear side up, crawled under, removed old, put some exhaust putty around both joins (once I'd got it on the hangers) and pushed together. Got my dad to hold it in place wedged against the mid section while I put the clamp round and tightened it up
Easy mate!
And yeah - your car would have killed that crappy 206

Dont underestimate the 206 gti 180, its a storming car with great handling and performance, it just doesnt stir the sole as much as the older gti's, probably because its more "grown up".
Handling wise... it would stuff the 205gti hands down.

IMHO I prefer the look of the MKI MR2 to the new one, really got its *** kicked - but so did the pug Mind you a 50bhp advantage ain't really fair, standard 206 GTi would have been very different!
LMFAO @ the 350Z!!!! The 300ZX whale got a bad start and still kicked its ***!!! Superb!!! Imagine if the distance was longer than a fifth of a mile - it would have been destroyed!

Thats exactly the point though mate and what Top Gear was trying to show *i think!*
Really IMHO how little the newer cars have moved the game on..... The 206 GTi had almost 10 years on the 205 and it was still not really quicker and the drive wasn't as good..........

That was crap.
The 205 got such a crap start it was unreal, and as for handling, the 205 would obliterate the 206 round a track, VBH was understeering all over the place when she tried it
They defo should have had my 205 against that 206, and the standard one against the std 206 gti - would have been much fairer.

A standard Escort Cosworth (especially the small turbo version they had) is quicker to 60 so it should beat the Focus and did, although the Focus driver seemed to forget to start the engine up (maybe he couldn't find the engine start button?) and didn't pull away until the Cossie had almost finished.
I think the test was unfair for this, and other cars and I am certain that they decided what should/shouldn't win beforehand. It certainly looked like they edited various runs together, so along with the recent spate of "dead heats" on car tests and celebrities either matching to the second, or always managing to beat the people they wanted to beat - I think it's all become a total farce. Anyway, I'm waffling and will now get back to the point!
The Focus 0-100 is a lot quicker than a standard Cossie and it can also corner and brake far better, so if they had used the track as they normally do each week, I think it would have been clear the Focus had a big edge over the STANDARD Cosworth (big turbo and small). It certainly has at track events where the two cars have been side by side.
The Focus was only 1 second behind a standard M3, so I doubt the Cossie would be beating that. However, I wish they had done a proper track test so we could have known for sure. If the Escort WAS quicker genuinely then fair enough, as I know they're great cars (having upgraded from the Escort to Focus).
For what it's worth, the Focus wasn't wheel spinning like crazy - it was just a pathetic start.. but considering JC hates the Focus it HAD to lose whatever. I just can't understand why they did all these pathetic races over a measly 5th of a mile - making the ability to pull off the line more important than anything else.
That's just normal "traffic light" racing that we could all do (obviously none of us do though!), hardly taking advantage of a nice long bit of tarmac where you can really let rip in complete safety.
