Mini (old school) tunig and parts info required....
#1
Hi all
A mate of mine has just bought an old mini in Canada and wants to go about modding the little beasty. However, since he's over there, he is finding parts rather hard to come by and would appreciate it if anybody could suggest some good places/websites over here for stuff up to and including some of the more mental engine transplants (Type R anyone? ). He is after places for everything, including body panesl, wheels, interior etc.
Any info greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Mike

1st step would be to look up books by David Vizard, he's pretty much the mini tuning guru, other than that the main people are minispares or any of the other online companies you find by putting mini into a search engine. the main companies are v expensive though, see if he can get 'mini' magazine over there, or maybe send him one yaself?
owain. (had 3 of the little beggars, including a fire breathing rally car!)

Watsons are in Wakefield - west Yorkshire
saw them doing some vtec transplants as long as 8 years ago.
-agree David Vizard was the man - he built the fastest road going mini with BL engine - 0-60 was under 5secs (no turbo)
(his daughter used it as a day to day car.)

Moss are good, i used them when i had Healey Sprites, do tuning parts as well.
I had a Sprite with a 1275 engine running around 125BHP, 78 std which was fun and a match for most hot hatches at the time, back in the early nineties that was.
I am sure they have a US operation as well.

Mike, are you in the UK?
If so, just pick up Mini World or one of the other mags dedicated to Minis - they all run the same adverts, so you'll have a better idea of what's available.
If you have specific questions though, feel free to ask, i've done most things on them in my time! (1968 Mk1 Morris Mini Cooper S owner).

As always, thanks very much for the great help guys. I shall pass it on. I am in the UK, so I will grab some mini mags and take them over to him at New Year.
Feel free to deposit more info as you see fit!
Thanks
Mike
