It's not the rear seat squab latch badly adjusted is it ??

The striker might be rattling against the latch...

Or is it suspension related ?

I am pretty sure its suspension related. They have swapped both shocks twice, the silencer for the exhaust, the rear wheel arch linings twice so far.

You hear a loud groaning/clonking noise when you go round bends, like roundabouts, reasonable slowly, when I start to load up the weight on the nearside rear suspension. Also get the same noise when unloading weight from suspension. Offside doesnt make any noises.

Druddle .....

Had the headlamp washer seal replaced on mine last friday. They tried to tell me it wasnt a common occurance and that it was just fluid leaking when I use the windscreen wash wipe. I managed to convince them of the error of their ways and when they took the unit apart the seal in question was shot to bits, what a suprise.

I also asked them to replace the front windscreen as it had disintergrated and I had bodged it back together. What a suprise when I went too collect the car and they said there was nothing wrong with my wipers. I had to pop into the workshop, get the mechanic and show him how I had bent the blades / arm etc. How he missed what I had done I will never know.

Oh and they charged me £350 for a 36,000 mile service. Quite steep I felt

Ah renault dealers Don't ypu just love them - NOT !

Went with a friend to pick his clio up (some one had run into the side of it and scarped) Passenger door had lock put through whilst supposdly locked away at night in the garage by the dealer.
The side that had been sprayed did not match on a three month old red clio !
Manager came out to look at lock and paint finish, claimed lock was like that when came in, and yes we can re match the paint , can book it in in a fortnights time as a little busy now.
To say I was suprised by the dealer is to say the least.
Will never ever buy a renault at all or anything from that dealer in Oldham

Car is a Y reg July 01 172.

Gary - i am on my 7th set of headlamp washers now and they seem to be ok. I am also on my 5th set of windscreen wipers, as the blades werent long enough for the wiper arm and were coming out of the clips and then falling apart after about a month. The ones on there now are redesigned.

There are quite a few things that Renault have told me are known issues:

Headlamp washers - are cr@p
Small fan and sensor for climate control - bearings go in fan and it whines
Exhaust centre section baffle - design fault
Clutch - engineers know that the plate is not man enough for the 172, its the same clutch as a 1.6 megane.

Cant wait to see what 1.4 wonder i get as a hire car as they couldnt fit me in today, so i will take the car in tomorrow.

Gotta say I love my 172

Dealers though Went to book my car in for what I thought was a £175 minor service & was told that it needed a £480 major service
Called a few other Renault dealers & they told me it was bullsh1t & I only need a minor service.

Got to say we have a 172 as well (15 months old). Only thing that has gone wrong is when the other half topped up the power steering reservoir with water. Blonde women, dont you just love em
It is a german import car though. Maybe its a French ploy to send all their ****e cars to us

My conscience is clear. Her wiper reservoir ran out on her way to work, so she decided to fill it up there..........
She didnt notice that she was putting water into a pot full of brown oil

rossyboy, my Mrs did the same thing on her 1.6 Si. It was the day after an operation and she was still under the effects of anesthetic

And before anyone says it, I was at work and she was at her mum's supposedly being looked after

Have they checked for illegal immigrtants hiding in the wheel arches?

give Watchdog a call, this has been going on a while and you would think a decent desalership would sort it out or swap the car.
