I'm not so sure on the diesel. Father has a petrol and has on order the new model with the improved diesel. This was after having the existing 3.0d on test. 2 things we noticed on the 3.0d. 1. It was showing only 2mpg better consumption on the fuel computer than the petrol - diesels arent that good economy wise if you drive them flat out and the x5 is so heavy you have to nail it to get anywhere. 2. It werent as quick as the petrol and didnt sound as good.

New diesel as in the new 5 series is supposed to be more economical and quicker.

I'm gonna take his petrol of him when he changes. Big alloys and TV/Sat nav n all the goodies lovely stuff. I dont care what people say about x5s it is a pretty decent car and IMHO in the right trim the best interior on any current BM.

Are there any X5 Owners on here ?

I would like to know what you think of them and are they worth the money. Im looking for a Secondhand one about a year old and was wondering weather to go for the petrol or diesel 3.0 sport.

I've spoken to an owner of a petrol 3.0 sport and asked he why he went for the petrol model over the diesel. And he's answer took me back a bit " I brought the petrol over the diesel, I don't want to use the dirty smelly pump !!!!! " WTF

I wont be doing too many miles a year, and have never owned a Diesel before in my life ???

What's the better one to go for ?

The diesel is the one to go for without a doubt, better residuals (try to buy one new) and reasonable economy for something of their size. The 3.0d Sport is the one to go for.

I have driven one, i have a few good freinds who work for Williams BMW Liverpool, they all agree that it is the ONLY X5 to go for (unless you can afford to run the 4.6is). Easily the best residuals and resale, great to drive, fuel economy etc.

3.0d Sport just buy one, these are the Daddys compared to the dicovery TD05 which feels like driving a transit van.

I had the 3.0 Petrol for a couple of months.

Lovely, lovely car, but it DRINKS fuel.

I have heard the diesel is the one to go for too, and it will be better on the fuel. But I don't do many miles in a year, plus I am one of these (probably few remaining) people who just can't get himself to get a diesel - narrow minded? Probably.
