Honda S2000?
If your wife can live without the convertable bit the Mazda RX8 may be worth looking at - I had a look at one on Saturday But I can't afford it (and keep the Scoob)

Quite simple...
Wife has an MX-5 and I've got a UK MY00 + PPP. We want to replace both with a car that satisfies both requirements.
I currently thinking about a Saab 9-3 Turbo Convertible.
Are there any others I should be considering?
All opinions / advice / experience welcomed.
Thanks,
Mark.

Hmm, so you want to replace a taut, sporty convertible and a fast, capable saloon car with a wobbly, shuddery re-bodied Cavalier?
I'd agree that a BMW Convertible would be a much better option, or maybe an Audi convertible?

If you need a 4 seat convertible, there's not much choice, the new 9-3 cab is supposed to be pretty good though. There's also the A4 cab. Saloon car based convertibles are never as good as the real thing though. What about an old shape SL500, steering is a bit lifeless but I love them and they really shift or a Boxter.

Seriously, though, what are you looking for in the replacement? eg fun, practicality, running costs, image, handling, power, value for money, retained value, etc. A list, in order of priority and a value for the replacement might be useful.

I was on the look out for a 4 seat convertible a couple of months ago so I test drove the usual suspects. Merc CLK, A4 Convert, 3 Series Convert and the new Saab Convert. The Merc was lovely but over priced, the A4 is only worth looking at with the bigger engines as the 1.8T is all show and no go, the BMW needs lots of extras to keep up and again it has to be at least a 325, and the Saab is a bit plasticky inside and has to be the 2.0 Aero. The Saab was the stiffest of the bunch and answer the problems of the old model which wobbled like jelly on anything but mirror smooth surfaces. It also came with the most kit as standard.
But in the end I thought 'sod it' and got a ZM Coupe instead.

As mentioned above - I have a saab 9-3 turbo coupe as well as the scoob - the saab scares me sh1tless when trying to push on in it.
Don't get me wrong the saab is a great car for the money - you just need to spend another £300 on an Abbot steering rack clamp to sort them out..
