Superchipping an M3 EVO?
#1
The Superchips site claims an 18 bhp increase for less than £300 inc vat fitted. Is this realistic and are there any other chipping compnaies on the market to match this for performance gains and value? Also, is chipping like this generally considered safe for the engine? Thanks for any replies.

But apparently the manufacturer chips are designed to cope with a variety of fuel grades and possible lack of regular servicing therefore compromising the efficiency and power the engine produces, to be on the safe side. This is why companies like Superchips can safely increase engine power and efficiency on cars which will be run on 'good' fuel and seviced regularly, without compromising reliability. Sounds reasonable to me.

In my many years of reading car forums i've seen quite a few posts which claim a superchip did actually SFA to the performance of their car. Some had before and after RR runs to prove this.
Would you really notice 18bhp anyway??
I'd stay well clear especially if I had an M3 Evo. I think superchips are aimed more at the boy racer in a Ford/Vauxhall/Citroen than BMW drivers.
Are there no specialist BMW tuners you can ask for advice?

Hi Mate,
If you really want to increase the performance of an M3 Evo the best way of doing it is with a Dastek Unichip which is mapped to your engine.
The car is rolling roaded before and after. Head over to www.bm3w.co.uk for more advice.
I have an M3 Evo coupe with an AC Snit chip and exhurst and find that more than enough.

When I owned my M3 EVO, I had it superchipped. It felt exactly the same after the new chip. Not worth the money on a normally aspirated but already high performance engine.

^ what they said....
I seriously doubt you will be able to feel any gains from chipping an M3. Maybe if done in conjunction with exhaust and a good induction kit you *may* feel it.
If you want the car to be significantly quicker look at getting some uprated suspension/brakes and work on your driving skills in order to make use of them!

Just get a supercharger and be done with it, there are loads of good companies who will do that. AC will not chip the cars becasue on their website it says something about how the cars are perfect anyway.

The M3 engine is already highly stressed. Allowing a company with a reputation as bad as Superchips anywhere near one really isn't a wise move.
