After 11 years in the family and 127,000 happy miles, our '87 model BMW 320 popped #4 piston the other day and will require approx £1500 spending to get back on the road.
Not really worth spending that amount on a car that's only worth half that but it's one of the family now and just face taking it to be scrapped
So options are as follows:
1. To hell with the cost and embark on restoration project
2. Sell to someone looking for a restoration project (if they exist!!)
3. Find a dealer with a "£500 for you car no matter the condition" part/ex
4. Break and sell the parts
Any ideas???

That's not a lot from that engine! Have you abused the poor, thirsty thing?
I sold mine for £900 two years ago with 212k miles on the clock and still going strong.
Never got more than 22mpg average in 3 yrs of driving it.

Not been abused at all except occasional oversteer practice
It has been 100% reliable until it broke down the other day!! Looks like a freak incident involving a sparkplug and #4 piston resulting in the engine becoming a bit of a mess!!!
Do like the trackday option tho and have been offered a 325i engine How much to get the rest of it up to track spec??
