Question

Today, in my UK99 decat, stuck to his rear like glue. Not convinced he was giving his it all as the car looks very fast (oh, I could hear his engine over my decat )

What are the stats on these cars?

(we gave each other the thumbs up in end)

It has 380BHP, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds 0-100 must be about 10s, thats for the 355, dunno if the GTS is the same.

I think it's safe to say he was out for a Sunday drive!

If it had been an MR2 T you wouldn't have been stuck to his bumper if he was tanking it never mind a 355

Thumbs up

Bluenose, thank you.

The way it looks and the way it sounds, I was expecting to go backwards. Are they really that loud as standard?

Fatherthingy, IIRC a standard MR2 (Mk2) has about 170bhp/ton, enough to trouble a std Impreza, nevermind the MR2 Turbo!

Not from where I'm sitting...

They have less than 170bhp & weigh well over a tonne!

Rev 1&2 MR2 have 158bhp, rev3 onwards have 174BHP.

But they do weigh over a ton!

I have - when I was driving one (F355). Makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Thing is, when most cars are in need of changing up a gear, these bark, cough a little and then go ballistic.

Apparently the 360 Spider sounds better. One day...

Not gloating here but can give a serious answer.

I have an STi7 PPP plus Scoobysport midsection and backbox and a F355 Berlinetta with sports cats.

The STI7 can stick with the F355 but looses out when the STi7 needs to change gear. My F355 revs much higher so starts to pull away. This is assuming that both cars are being given full "thrap".

As we've mentioned here many, many times before it really does depend on how a Ferrari is being driven to give a true comparison...

Cornering is a completely different issue and really depends on the weather

No one was taking the mik out of the MR2 turbo - just that you can get the ferrari bodykits for them.

We all know what the Top Secret Supra had in its pants!

To say the F355 engine is loud is an understatement. Like I said, it drowned my full SS decat noise! Surely this must violate any noise regulations? Eitherway, it's good to know that loud cars are not just the privilege of the Max Power massive!

Bluenose it might not be a million miles short of serious. I raced a 360 modena the other week (prior to standardisation) and he was pulling away but not by the sort of margin I was expecting. The 360 is quite a bit faster than the 355 so its feasible that a well modded scooby would keep up reasonably well if the rarri driver wasn't hell bent on quick gearchanges and red-lining.

To be fair, F355s aren't that fast.. and certainly don't feel it without the kick in the back that a turbo car would give. I think Ferraris official figures are optimistic, at best (and are from the earlier, less restricted versions)

Quite underwhelmed with mine I was.

I know a Renault 5 GT turbo gave a 355 some hassle the other week (I posted in the was it you forum). The 355 driver looked VERY pissed off. But then again some R5's are mental and this one flew by like proverbal of a stick!

I know a couple of Ferarri owners, and they say they get hassle from ********* almost every time they go out for a spin.

They just don't bother racing because they know it's not worth it and 99% of times they'll win.

For them, that's not what it's about.

Remember, for what they paid for their beauty they could have bought a skyline and modded it to 700bhp to blow away anything on the road.

Envy is a very destructive emotion.

Well the Ferrari owners you know are certainly not representative of the ones who decided to race a bloody R5 (look on his face was priceless - I wish I had a camera!)

Additionally, a Modena driver decided to p1ss on me on local dual carriageway (That was an unprovoked attack )

Finally, the 355 I chased was blasting it through town - I heard him way before seeing him!

Yeah true.

The two guys I know (360 & 355) are both mid 30s and have been through the XR3i, M3 and Skyline phases and now can't be arsed racing.

The people you met were probably straight out of Scoobies or Evos with something to prove.

I've rarely seen a Ferarri owner really going for it Most buy the car for a status symbol rather than to actually drive to the limit (in my experience of them).

I'm no expert, I've been lucky enough to have driven a 355 twice and a 360 once and a 550 (sadly not for long enough) but the 355 was not that rapid, OK - it was a spider but my sti felt quicker, the 360 was quick, but again not hugely quicker, the 550 was quick and smooth, my view is the Scoob is probably as quick all of them to about a ton but then it really is bye bye rally boys...

All you Ferrari racers in your scoobs should have a little go against my 360 owning (ex F40 owner) mate, I'm sorry but you will not stand a chance wet or twisties or any other road you choose!

LOL
