Ah . . . the winter . . . snow . . . not a friend of the CTR
Mine was positively scary to drive with a layer of snow on the ground, one blip of the throttle and it was like a big Japanese sledge
Hope fully my new Proxes will help out and bit better then the cr@ppy Potenzas.

Glad it not just me with the brakes
Brake Fluid levels are fine, Just personally dont feel that they are that that good. Change of pads might make them feel better and give more initial bite / better 2nd/3rd press.
Agree with the comment re the Evo going faster hence greater distance to brake. I will put money that the test was not done in the wet with the CTR on standard tyres !!

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has got a CTR.
My fiance is mad for one so I'm just seeing what they're like.
Not really interested in the CTR vs Scooby debate, if I was, I'd probably be buying her a Scoob
What are they like on the fuel?
Do they munch front tyres?
Thoughts and ownership experiences pls folks
Rgds

Had my Black CTR a few months now,and am very happy with it.
Not sure on the MPG,because its just a weekend car really, but I can say its better than my old Scoob, under 5500 rpm very good, over 5500 rpm not terrible but you can notice the difference.
Front tyre wear depends on how its driven.Front wheel drive and 197 bhp means wheelspin if you push it from standstill. The standard Potenzas are OK,but it would be worth going for a different tyre(Toyo's etc),but its the same with every car,you will learn a good launch technique with time.
Paint is not that good though, especially the Black,it looks the best colourIMHO,but its a rite mare to keep clean. The slightest scratch shows up very easily.
Hope this is some use to you

I have one....
Excellent car! and real fun to drive.
A tank of Optimax will cost you about £35-37 and you should see 280 miles from that.
Front tyres - as said earlier change to Toyo's as soon as you can much better especially in the wet. Also reduces road noise massively! You can get the tyre for £65 per corner fitted.
If you want to know anything more then email me.
btw- I think the red is the best colour. Looks good in all lights and looks cleanish even when dirty.... unlike the black!

Pah - everyone knows Silver is the best colour
Mine seems to eat tyres Can't think why One front pair of Potenzas lasted . . . hmmm . . . 5 months
Superb car though, very chuckable and sounds awesome when tweaked.
Got a Magnex 6x4 exhaust on mine and a Blitz Sonic Induction Kit on the way this week

DJ Dunk,
Any chance of a pic or two of the CTR with the Magnex on? I had the 6x4 on me scoob and I reckon it will look pretty tidy on the Civic.
Thanks for all the advice

Here we go . . .
Suits the car IMO, fits the cutout nicely and the slash cut suits the cut of the bumper. Nice exhaust, would recommend going the the ABP version which has no centre silencer.

Thanks for the photos Dunk, most impressed.
You got any niggles with ownership?
Sounds like a pretty good package.
Only thing is we'd need one with Air Con, so possibly tricky second hand.
Thanks again

Have to admit to have absolutely zero niggles with the car whatsoever Have changed the ICE But thats about the worst thing about the car I can think of
Love it, could maybe make more noise, but the Blitz Sonic will soon put paid to that
The Civic Type-R BBS will answer a great number of questions and you're sure to find yourself a nice one with the elusive snowflake button for a good price. Maybe selling mine (sans aircon) next year for an S2000, but we'll see.
As Plantie said, need any info or unbiased advice, just ask

Every ITR that i've come up against would not do your comment to much justice I don't think. I'd say pretty evenly matched to 80-90mph, then the CTR will have the edge top end...
#23
Disagree there, Ive got a DC2 ITR and my mate had a CTR with Magnex system and induction kit and I would pull 2-3 car lengths from 30-90ish about 1 and a half car lengths being between 7 and 9000RPM in 3rd gear, after that the gap stayed the same, but he could never beat me, not by a long shot, the only mod my car has is a de-cat pipe, I dont understand why so many people say the CTR will have the edge because thats rubbish, unless my car is a freak. Oh and the ITR in the pics (DC5) is quicker than mine as far as i know so he will whip a CTR.

Well my mate has a MK1 172, i havent raced him but he had my car for a day and said it felt a lot quicker than his 172, the guy i was speaking about with the CTR has also had an ITR and 172 and thought the 172 was slow, maybe you should have a race with an ITR.

Hi RichieC
I've owned a CTR for about 3 months now and am really happy with it. Good job really as I was only interested in buying a CTR and did not look at anything else (not got enough cash for a Scoob).
Ownership experience has been really good so far (touch wood) and the other half loves it too. No faults to date and the engine is a dream. A real pussycat round town but will rev so freely (and I mean freely) to the limiter. There's no way you can compare the N/A CTR with a turbo Scoob (Scoobs are something else altogether) but what you do get for £16k is phenomenal IMHO. Great seats, near fade free brakes, engine note, slick gear change, next to no body roll, (dry) traction and interior space.
The car is not all good though. The steering feel (or lack of) takes time to adjust to and I'm still adjusting !! (I'm no Matt Neal)
Handling on poorly surfaced/bumpy roads can be a problem as the front end tends to skip about. The suspension can also throw you arround a bit inside the car too so it's just as well the buckets are huggier than Huggy Bear !!
Torque is also poor if you're not in the correct gear and this can make the car feel slow. Sounds obvious I know but most cars are more forgiving. It's taken me a long time to get the gearing right and I still don't think I'm there yet.
Too early to tell how long my tyres will last but I've been achieving between 26-40 mpg so far (best using Optimax).
IMHO the CTR is like a good woman. It can be hard work sometimes but will repay the effort with an amazing ride
Soz the the long un

CivicTypeR a standard Impreza Vs a CTR will be pretty even when you take out the 0-10 traction in gear it will be pretty close and the CTR will have the advantage over 140 (if your into that)

wife picks up her new c.t.r. on monday.initial thoughts are the brakes are better than my uk my99 turbo wagon.less of a target for thiefs i think, as it looks like a lot of other cars from the front.practical with loads of space.drove it in 6th gear at 30mph not a problem.plenty of grunt without entering the vtec zone.hopefully we wont regret buying it.winter time will be a real test compared to my old scooby.
