Hi Gang
Just wondering if you guys like the Audi DSG Gearbox? I see that Ford and Honda are playing around with their own versions.
A Must Have..........Or no thanks?
Cheers

Hmmmm more a case of apathy I think. The thread I started a while back kind of fizzled.

Well I like the idea of it anyway.

To be honest i think Ford and co are not far behind. Since Audi dropped it into the TT EVERY other car producer will have tried! I am sure Ford and GM and Toyota and Honda are 3 years away with theirs.
Porsche will use them in the next model Boxster/911 and that's about 2 years away. A long wait but well worth it i think.

I guess the reason such a thing appeals to me is that it is a manual gearbox. With some trick stuff to change gear for you, if you want.
Lazy day: put it in D.
More motivation: use it manually via the paddles, sort of Gran Turismo controller without losing power to a slushmatic thing.
Of course never having driven with one or even something similar I don't know what to make of it. One review said that the various versions of F1-style gearboxes were completely futile - because this one was already there.
The review of the TT I posted in the other thread sounded quite interesting, but on the other hand it was American...

Hmm pre-engaged gears. London bus anyone
I think it's something that will become more common. Especially on the 'smooth' car market (A6, 5series, E class, Omega etc. etc.) as it has the potential to make progress even smoother.
