Question

Wife's car needs a new seal on her car - they're the big ones the doors close on to that keep the weather out. They look like they're perishing, and in winter, if frosty, the door gets stuck with frost.

Firstly - does this sound like these rubber seal things are going? If so, is there anywhere that can do them cheaply?

Have got a quote from a local garage who said £131.18 for the front 2 doors Just for a length of rubber and glue. Is this the sort of price I can expect?

Thanks.

If they're still watertight and not cracked / split try using Armor All or a similar treatment on them. £3.99 from Halfords. It will keep the seals flexible and should stop them sticking when cold.

Used it all the time on the Webasto vinyl roof on my old MG and it never cracked or split, despite several winters outside.

Thumbs up

Also (as above if they are not split) try using the Autoglym rubber care stuff, which is also pretty good.

Try looking at kit car interior stuff suppliers, you could prolly get a length of seal yourself! You won't need any glue, they just bash on, over the seem of the panels.

Having said that, you probably won't get away with it if it's a mkIII onwards, I'd say they'd most likely be an odd shape and a "dealer only" part.

Good luck
