03WRX 'vs' Clio 172 Sport
#1
I know i'll have the clio brigade on ranting about how much better....bla bla bla, here goes, I was on the southbound M6 this morning and came up to a clio 172 sport, looked pretty nice and i've heard for the money they a great buy, but to get back on subject, I pulled in behind him, and as the traffic started to clear from the outside lane he gave it a bit of welly and pulled away, at this point I did not respond, he then got stuck behind another slow moving car 70-75mph, and after a couple of secs I caught up, when the road became clear he went again accelerating up to about 110, and then again he got stuck, this time I thought I would teach him a bit of a lesson, when the road because clear he gunned it, then I gunned it, and what amazed me, I was up his **** within a second.
The difference in speed/power was huge, I mean at first I thought he was not trying, but as the traffic cleared he was forced to either be even more embarrased or move over, he moved over, and i blasted past, the look on his face confirmed he was trying very hard!!!!
I know there is no comparison, 265bhp 'vs' what 172?.
I have not written this to **** off any clio owners, they are a great all-round car, its just an observation I wish to share, after a while with the scooby you get used to power, and its not until these kinds of situations you appreciate what you have.
Cheers

oh yeh, forgot to mention, ppp fitted, even without it would not have made much difference, just very surprised in the acceleration, and to be honest a little dissapointed in the clio's, I would imagine there pretty quick around bends!

Until I sold my P1 I owned both a Cup and P1. Having run comparisons up to 110 the Cup was not that far behind the P1 and felt marginally quicker than a bug eye. Above that the P1 would pull away as it would on a lesser scoob.
Maybe he had it in the wrong gear or wasnt up for it? I think Saxo Boy had a similar thread on this a few months back

Edited as having reread your initial post you arent being a tit about it
Had a 172 on test drive last week (was very bored one lunchtime), have to say was not impressed.
Was nippy, but didnt have that feeling, only feeling I would get is the lighter chassis, due to me being relieved of 14 odd grand.
Guess a cup is a bit different, evo got a 0-60 time of 6.5 in one.
So my search goes on for somethign nice to get, tavia rs is on the cards, or possibly an older S4/M3.

The difference between a 172 and a cup is big IMHO. My VTS used to stay with 172s all day long and anytime I've been in one it felt no faster. The cup blows the back doors of a VTS and is far more able to frighten scooby's
