Look here www.t5uk.com nice bunch of guys and the 850R is a fast car before you start looking into the tuning options.
A barge maybe but a quick one.

I had the normal T5, nearly bought an R but the ride was a bit hard and it was a lot more money and didnt seem any quicker, did look better apart from the interior which was very beige and covered in what I can only describe as coffin wood, disgusting.
Go for it, really solid well made cars, bit lumpen to drive, gearchange is rubbery and not a fun car apart from blowing off hot hatches and bothering Scoobs (in a straight line), even the tyres are cheaper these days, they last about 8k on the fron if you are a bit heavy footed or 2k if you are an animal.

On the test drive get the engine nicely warmed up, then stop, remove the oil filler cap, then see if any smoke comes out. If it does walk away.

Yeah watch for smoke but dont confuse it with a hot oil haze which you will get of any engine, round the dipstick should be clean with no burnt on gunge, if there is any they have been feeding it mineral oil and only fully synthetic will do for T5's.
The clutches can judder because of the huge flywheel fitted by Volvo to try and curb the wheelspin, not that effective but I couldnt imagine what it would be without it, fron wheels will spin up in third if you boot it in the wet.
Contrary to what some beleive they arent that tunable without spending a lot of money, the Turbo isnt big enough to make really big numbers and to be honest the chassis is at its limits anyway, 300 bhp is about the most you could expect, which is plenty.
Making me want another this !

REVO is hardly expensive and liberates more horsepower- along with thge usual suspects of zorst change is hardly big money. Same price as mildly tickling an Impreza.
