FWIW I had this engine in the old 9-3 (not 900, just not the latest 9-3) at about 40k miles as a courtesy car (so it's been thrashed) when my 9-5 was in service.

For: Fooking amazing grunt - 2000 - 4000 mental, nothing either side. massive fun. Manic if you wanted to stir it lower down the gears, brilliant motorway cruise. Subjectively, my 2ltr light pressure turbo 9-5 feels slower

Against: Erm, quite loud at idle, loud when stretched (not bad at cruise.) Better than the only other diesel I've driven (94 306), but not as quiet as I'd expected. Maybe down to the soundproofing / thrashing. Suspect the new-variant 9-3 to be better. Also has a better chassis.

Also managed to get the fuel consumption down to 24mpg In a diesel Up as far as 45 cruising for 1/2 hr tho, just didn't behave very well in the main...

I got a turbo petrol 9-3 - quite like it apart from it handles like a wardrobe on a waterbed, surfing down a river in flood

I am, I'm looking at a 2001 9-3 with the 125bhp TD engine, i.e. the one after the 115bhp TD.

Cheers
