£330k is a figure dreamt up by some Smart@rsed(tm) accountant.
ie. if it took three man years worth of labour to design, engineer and build one car and they spent a total of £330k (inlcuding donor parts) then that is what the end product ( a single car ) is 'worth' in cost terms.
However, as there are already 10 of these Smarts in exisitence, maybe they have spent £3.3M todate on the project...
Seems a bit pricey though as you could have had the TopGear featured Lotus Lada for *only* £100k! Go figure.

I spotted one of Smarts V6 Bi Turbo 170bhp prototypes yesterday. Is Smart now expanding into the performance car market??? 170 bhp and most likely as light as a feather. Any one seen one before?

HI Stephen ... how's things mate ? I've been reading about these for a month or two now, they're a limited edition run of 10 prototypes but may be a sign of things to come (I hope !) but not at the remoured cost of £330k a pop

Question is; are they worth so much?
Will anyone pay that much?
170BHP sounds nice but I don't think that Smarties are that light. ISTR around the 900kg mark. Also, they're auto-box which lot's of testers have given a real slating to.

A friend of mine was at the Solitude races where these were having a drive round. Said they sounded nice.
I guess the cost comes from the fact that for each one, they are taking two smart engines and welding them together :-)
