Fiat Coupe Vs Honda s2000 Vs Civic Type R

3 cracking cars! money permitting its the S2000. Style is awesome, as is the engine. Later models handle more conservatively as they were softened up due to amount the accidentents that people had in the stiffen'd early model.
Fiat coupe is a very nice motor... Lovely inside, a real coupe! Acoustically it is one of the best i have ever heard. They have a tight steering rack which is great when you are having a blast!
Lower it and they look great and handle superbly. Only downside is Fiat reliability.
CTR is a great hot hatch has good power, great gear box, loads of room and handles better than all of them IMO. (although the real wheel drive S2000 is fun) Downside compared to the other 2 is more box'ie looks as not a coupe or convertible.
3 good cars but money permitting it would be the S2000 thousand for me. In this comparison you get what you pay for in my opinion... S2000 is the most expensive followed by the CTR then the Fiat (2nd hand).
Hope that helps!

Oh reference your question....
The CTR is the easiest to drive hard, very good and well balanced on the twisties. Not great in the Wet but this is down to OEM tyres. Change them and it makes the world of difference.
S2000 is the toughest car to drive hard.... good power at high revs through the rear wheels, requires respect and a good rear - wheel driver to get the most out of it. Very twitchy in the wet! More of a nice cruiser or a fun track car... you could easily loose it on a twistie if you push too hard.
Fiat, good power through the front wheels... steering is excellent and can be driven hard through twisties with ease. In the wet, again tyres will help from wheelspin.
All comments are my personal opinion having driving them.
Edited as I cant spell!!

In terms of straight line speed (rolling start) I had a play with an S2000 in my Coupe. The coupe was marginally faster than the S2000. Have to admit that I am considering the S2000 as a replacement for the Coupe when its time to change.
I did sound wonderful - an S2000 and a 20VT on full chat through some tunnels.

What a strange mix of cars...ageing (but nice) coupe, slightly mad RWD sports car, hot hatch.
Always find these chalk'n' cheese comparisons odd. Also find it odd asking a bunch of strangers on the net about cars...it's the car equivalent of sending an email to the person working next to you.
Anyway the answer to your question is S2K. Guess which one I own
The real answer? Go drive 'em and choose for yourself...if you like it who cares what anyone else thinks?
Course the answer will still be S2K lol

The coupe french thing is not quicker than a s2000 or the civic.
And the reason he posts is because there could be some 1 on the board like me who since he was little has studied cars from looks 2 actual track and life expirience and lives 4 them.
and I say none of them(civic is cheaper though if i have 2 choose)Theres greater cars than all 3 you just need to drive every option and gain your own opinion.

Not driven the S2000 but have a Civ R and it's not as quick as a 20VT. Or didn't feel anything like as quick.
Not sure what in gear times are for either car but the 20VT in 3rd up to 110mph is amazing.
The Typr R felt breathless and slow after 80.

lol, fiat coupe french!, you must have studied really hard, not!

the in-gear is good due to flat torque curve, when car hits 70/80 in 3rd, turbo starting to really kick hard at that point, great for overtaking, no fear of having to change gear halfway through it.

Lucky enough to own/run an S2000 and CTR(cant justify a Fiat coupe as well) For me S2000 all day long just for the sound of mad 9K redline engine, feels special and demands respect especially in wet,CTR is a good hot hatch in my opinion and has bigger boot than S2000!

S2000 for me, once you own a quick car it's not all about the highest top speed or the in gear times(although this is important), it's the total package and the amount of fun you can have. You can go fast in a Fiat in a straight line, but what about breaking and cornering.
The CTR has got to offer one of the best pound for BHP packaging around, it's nearly as quick as my S2000 and cost 9k less, but then again it looks boxy and crap to me, but I do like the wheels though.

I'm thinking of the s2000 for next summer...I've had a look at autotrader and it looks as though I should be able to get one for £12k by then...
What insurance group are they in and is there a scoobynet equivalent for s2000s?

You won't pick up an S2000 for 12k next summer, the first one came out in late 99 and if your lucky you might get an old nail for 15k.

Oh right...You see I didn't know they came in two flavours - is there any reason not to go for a jap version (apart from keeping it at 100ron and servicing, which would not be an issue after 3 year warranty)?

I wouldn't be happy with a second hand Jap import myself, history and all that stuff. The Jap. S2000 is the S2000 type R (I think,) it's rated at 250 BHP (UK 240), it's set up for smooth Jap roads and might not ride to well on UK roads, mines a UK and I haven't driven the Jap. model. so you would be best having a chat on S2Ki.com to find out the opinion of some Type R owners. There is a few to ask and they would be more than happy to give you any advice you need.

And don't forget that the ones currently below £15/£16k, if not an import, will be high milers or dogs or the owner is looking for a very fast sale. Currently, if you want a decent one (make sure warranty work completed) you're looking at around £17k upwards.
