My Astra is Kaput, help
#2
My mates dad had a '92 Cavalier TD. Head gasket went on it and his mechanic said due it being a diesel it needs a new head at approx £500. Due to the age/value of the car he just scrapped it.

nooooo, lol
thats not good. Ive already thought about that, seing as the car is only worth £1000, im unsure what to do.
I dont know what id do if it was set on fire by some *ahem* kids.
Ive put a post in the Bikers section, as thinking of a bike for time being until fixed, 'cos, i may be able to do most of it myself, with a little help from some mates.
thanks though, lol

After doing a 400 mile round trip on saturday for a mate to pick some stuff up for his Pulsar, my Astra TD has given up.
We drove from Brihton to Bristol to exeter and back, we made it as far as Ringwood, when the engine shut down, we (luckily) glided into a Shell garage.
It had overheated andf blown the water tank cap off and what looked like the head gasket.
After two hours the AA guy turned up.
He agreed it was the head Gasket gone, and cos its a diesel, its shagged.
Well, another two hours later, the truck arrived to take us home.
Just spoken to our local garage and he proceeded to tell me, shagged.
Its going to cost £450 to repair it.(the car is only worth a grand!!!)
So i was just wondering if anyone knows if this is true, and will it cost that much?
Can anyone give me any ideas of what to do now with it?
sorry, its a '92 mk3 with the isuzu engine
thanks very much
Tony
