Question

My brother owns the above car and has been quoted £1100 to do a cambelt change on it by the local Fiat garage.
Anyone know where I can get this done at a realistic price by a good independant garage in the SE London area ?

Get hold of a copy of Auto Italia @ WH Smiths, it'll give a good list of independant dealers.
Two that spring to mind are:

L&M (High Wycombe) http://www.l-m.co.uk
Auto Integrale (Reading) http://www.auto-integrale.co.uk/

You might want to pop across to the FIAT coupe Forum and search on cambelt change. FIAT tend to quote for an engine out cambelt change but it is apparently possible without completely removing the engine. The debate continues....

http://www.fccuk.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php

There's various tensioners and auxiliary belts that should be replaced at the same time (he says confidently about a car he doesn't own :-)

Seriously, forewarned is forearmed etc. in case it breaks after replacement.

NEVER use Fiat dealers for work of this nature!!!!

An independant specialist should do it for £500 - £600.

Please note: you must change "water pump", belt tensioner/bearing,aux belts and of course timing belt!

the water pump is the one some people forget, if that goes, engine out or moved over, which ever way its done not cheap, so in long run, better to do all of these things

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Have managed to get the cambelt change down to a 'reasonable' £580 now. So, I think the least my brother could do with the money I have saved him, is to take me on Holiday !!

Regards

Mr G
