hi guys, was all ready to go to my local dealer and order an sti8 prodrive in black, but.... had a change of heart and have just picked up a bmw m coupe, its 2002 model with 5000 miles in black, with the lastest S54 engine, giving it a whopping 325bhp, and man this thing is quick, im just glad this one had got traction control, put your foot down in 1st/2nd/3rd and your head just gets knocked back so fast, you can really feel the front end lift up, after coming from a elise with 118 bhp, this thing is in a different league.
But do you guys think i have made the right choice?

you have come onto a scoob forum to ask if a m3 is better than a scoob i think you are going to get more against than for

whereas if you went onto a bmw forum you would get more positives

You have bought a modern classic, that is TVR fast and bit's dont fall off. A scoob would need at about 350bhp to keep up in a straight line.

With the money you wont lose in depreciation on the scoob.......you could buy a scoob.

M3 is a great car it has the style...the build quality..the looks....the performance, alot of people think BMW drivers are tossers, as Jeremy Clarkson once quoted built in Germany....driven by tossers.....Now that can't mean everyone but when people are inside a box of quality fine leather and creature comforts, knowing that behind the bonet lays something that will give other drivers a hard time and on the exterior sits the fine BMW badge then it can have an effect on people....

With any scoob you get lots of fun all round, the backing of a great community as you can see by this forum, plus the rally herritage and the scooby wave which makes such a difference to life. Tons of grip and power, lots of fun round the twisties and lots of after market support...yes lots

so there you go...only you can say if you've made the right choice !!

Sorry....couldn't resist

Unfortunately I can't take credit for it

A statement from a BMW driver.

Ring any bells?...........................

The other day I was cruising along as usual coming onto one of my
motorways, which was very busy with inferior cars.
First off, I
couldn't believe that the volume of traffic DIDN'T slow down for me AT
ALL as I came off the slip road! I had to squeeze into a barely big
enough gap between two cars in order to get onto my motorway! (The
driver of the car behind me did realise his mistake though and honked
an apology to me with a long blast of his horn.)

Unbelievably, I had to do the same again before I could get to the BMW
lane. (Why do underlings use this lane? Surely everyone knows it is
for BMW drivers only?)

Anyway, once I was in the BMW lane and posing
along at 110mph enjoying the adulation that the inferior car drivers
were giving me, I noticed an inferior car ahead of me which was not
only in the BMW lane of my motorway, but was driving at a ridiculous
70 mph! Naturally, I got to within a foot or so of his rear bumper and
flashed my headlights to remind him he shouldn't be in the BMW lane of
my motorway and to get out of my way. Of course, once he realised it
was a BMW behind him, he did just that, but I could hardly believe it
when he pulled straight back out behind me!

He also tried to keep up with me and when he realised I would out-run
him, he put on some blue lights in his front grill and urged me to get
onto the hard shoulder so that he could congratulate me on my
excellent car. Needless to say, I was eager to oblige and when we had
stopped, the man gave me a piece of paper confirming what I already
knew - that my car goes fast! Apparently he wants everyone to know
what a superior car I have, so I had to take my driver's licence to a
Police Station to be sent away to have some points put on! (They're
not free points either - they're £20 each and I was only allowed 3).

But the man at the Police Station said that because I drive a BMW, it
won't be much longer before I earn the full 12 points, and then I
won't even NEED a driving licence, so they will take it off me!

See, now THAT's the sort of respect you get when you buy and drive a
BMW!

Madjay,

well it's like saying MX5' & AUDI TT's are hair dressors cars.
Impreza's are drug dealer or thugs car, BMW's a tossers car, or white van are the scum of the earth drivers.

Cars do have labels and thats because of the critics, you find tossers in any type of car, but the BMW has always had the perception of being driven by a tosser, Always has and always will just like the MX5 being a Hair dressors car and a skoda being a bag of sh*te, And a Micra being a old ladies car.... and so on...

When your inside that box a different personality can be brought out in you... road rage for one, if someone is in front of you and driving slow (your unable to overtake) , some people tend to react by getting aggresive flash the light beep the horn shouting words of abuse. Now if your walking along the street and a person is in front of you walking slow, most people won't react in the same way.. they will most likly wait.

Which goes to show when your inside a box with certain factors like comfort, performance, safty, structure, agressive or non aggresive looks then people do react differently which can also give the car a label.

MM

And just to finish, BMW sales persons & dealerships...The BMW is the finest peice of engineering, you won't get anything of this type of quality anywhere...

Your wearing jeans and have paint on your T-shirt , are you sure you can afford this sir.

What car do you drive at the moment, Oh a Honda NSX ... whats one of those ?

Yup have always been made to feel intimidated by BMW dealerships...

I have owned two Beemers, one a 325 coupe (98) and the other a 328 convertible (98). I now have a STI Type R. The scooby is the better "sports car" and has the greater grin factor, but the beemers are exceptional cars, they are the more accomplished all rounder. As for power, my scoob was all over my freind's E36 M3, though the M coupe is a little faster as it is lighter and has the same 321 bhp power plant that is as smooth as a snake's slippery bits!
There is a certain snobbery associated with beemers, people who see the scooby in place of the 328 convertible think I am down on my luck!

I could be tempted back into a beemer when the 400bhp V8 M4 comes out in 2006

Better:

built
image
performance
style
residuals
engine
sound
exclusivity
quality
ownership experience
dealers
reviews

In a car that's supposed to be fun to drive I'd take tail-happy over understeer any day, thanks. We're not exactly talking 3-litre Capri tail happy after all...

monkeh, i paid £30k for it, it is one of the last 10 off the production line, and has every extra, i agree with alot of people on here about bmw drivers being tossers, had a 1.8 z3 try and burn me up last night, lol, but i try and think of the z3m coupe drivers as a different breed, as really the m coupe is a limted run super car and people who normally would buy one are a bit more into their cars than people who drive standard 3 series cars that are just for posing and they all think they are driving some race car, it really makes me laugh when you see these guys try it on with subaru's and tvrs and basiclly any car on the road, and think they should be beating them.

so my m coupe has 325bhp and evo tested it at 4.3 from 0-60 and 11.7 o-100, so yes its very quick, but would not like to push it to much it the wet or on a bend, but in a striaght line it is amazing. the build quality is superb, full grey nappa leather, cruise control, air con, heated electric seats, heated electric mirrors, it is really thr both the both worlds, supercar performance, with luxuary car interior, also only 65 of the 325bhp post 2001 cars made, so resale value could be good, only bad point is what car would i get next.

To finish off with a quote from jeremy clarkson while driving the m coupe: Bmw made by germans driven by tossers, but this one, this is rather nice.
cheers kieron.

ER......
Have to agree thats one fine handling powerful car its like TVR Speed with build qualityas earlier said on thread, its like every BMW M-series can be just driven along in but is better at twisties and tracks Ive been round Oulton in most of BMW Range(bmw driving day) and let me tell you that thing is more fun then the M3 and more fun then is legal if you like driftin like something out of the Japanese videos often seen on here turn that traction off however if you like to be eased into bends with a little less danger leave it on.

You got it dead right Best of Both Worlds it certainly is but for Grin factor Scoobies have a little bit more fun in them (besides half the people that buy BMW do have a problem with "lesser cars i.e anything except mercs Even though they are driving a company leased 316 with wheel trims hope you arent one of these nowLOL

My theory is if i was gonna get another BMW (had 3 INC 525IX 4WD)id go for something bespoke like the M coupe Or MZ3 because all the sticky bits in the world cant hide the fact average bmw is a 316 /318 with DRUMS!!!!!

Id have your car over a scoob if i drove a lot but for for round town fun and A road frolics id of ordered the scoob cos its a bit like having a shot of laughing gas.........
