B reg Rover 213s.

Complete heap, it was fukced! About a year after I sold it to some smelly, gypsy type bloke I had the police round my house asking me if still owned it.

It had been used in an armed robbery in Leeds. Hardly the best get-away motor!

Mk 1 Golf GTI - insurance cost me £525 fully comp with no no-claims bonus (obviously).

Now some 18 years later I'm paying £990 with full no claims and 18 years of driving experience behind me - eh???????

Regards,

tiggers.

Mk1 Golf 1.5GLS - had it 9 years (was my mums before that and my grans until she died, car had been in family 18 years) loads of memories of going through my late teens/early 20's. Sold it when it was 21 years old, still going strong. Fine car.

Very, Very bad - £2500 FC

Mk1 GTI, I'd love one of them as a runabout now. What are the running costs? MPG etc?

OUCH!!!!!!!!
Oh well, I guess it had to be done!
MK1 GTI, find a good one and I am led to believe it would cost naff all to run, good MPG etc. Problems finding some parts nowadays though (bodywork etc.) so I am told.

i see the mk1 golf gti mentioned, thats what ive got as a runaround, do about 700+ miles a week, so piling the miles on it instead of the scooby.

its a 1.8i and does 40+ mpg and raggin it hardly affects the mpg either, its shocked me how good it is. scooby is 26mpg drivin steady on a long run

First car I was able to drive after sitting my test was my mum's F-reg Mazda 121. Then I had a couple of company cars - Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 TD and a Citroen Xantia 1.7 TD (both M-plates).

First car I owned was a M-reg Golf GTI I bought in 1998, then came the RB5 in May '99 and I'm still driving it.

At 17....a 1275 Mini with stage one kit, 12x5 Minilights, Yokos, red/black roof, black grp2 arches, lowered on Gmax shocks, lots of chrome, extra Lucas lamps (one reverse/fog, two 7 inch spots and two 5 inch fogs), half leather, Corbeau recliners blah blah, got hit up the back by some pratt in a Corsa last year, wrote if off Syill have it though, having a 1380 built for it as we speak

Glad to see the Golf Mk1 GTI is getting some good press in here. If it's any help I wish I still owned it - drove a mate's quite recently and they still feel great to drive.

From what I remember it did around 35-40 mpg and cost nothing in servicing or parts as on the rare occasions something went wrong the enthusiast's club knew just where to get the part nice and cheap.

As far as I'm concerned it was the best of all the Golfs - in fact I might just start having a look for a good one - you never know.

Regards,

tiggers
