How colour can f*ck up a car
#1
I was thinking of all the cars I've seen over the years where colour has f*cked up a car big time
Yellow has to be the one
Corrado
Audi S4
Ferrari 348
911
968
Am I alone?

Agree, as per my comments on the RS6 thread.
Audis should never be red
BMWs should never be red
Aston Martins should never be red
Jaguars should never be red
Ferraris should never be yellow
Nothing should ever be white or metallic brown!

In an old copy of Top Marques I have lurking in my crapper, there is a yellow Merc SL500 (wedge shaped), says it's a 'special edition' and I think they're right!
Worse still there's a new shape M5 in hideous yellow!....I mean....someone had to actually go into a beemer dealership and say, "Hmmmm! I think.....the yellow looks good!"
Proof if ever it were needed that w##king makes you blind.

all I can say is that they grab the attention
maybe sportscars can look good in yellow but saloons and estates need to be metallics if you want good resale
I saw a Boxster in yellow and that worked well actually

It kind of depends where you live as yellow cars can look quite good in the South of France or California but not so in the UK.
I'd imagine that anyone who owns a white Testarossa would have a hard time shifiting it (unless they lived in the Gulf, or Miami).
Porsche comes in for some stick for only offering a fairly limited standard colour palate but you can of course have one any colour you like if you cough up £2-3K.
Yellow Boxsters are not my cup of tea but neither are Seal Grey ones. It's funny because Seal GRey is not that different from RB5 grey which I think looks good in all weathers but unless the sun is shining, Porsche Seal Grey looks....greyer than Ron Dennis's wifes curtains.

968 Club Sports look good in yellow, so do 911's generally. Many jap cars (skyline, evo, ITR, Scooby, etc.) look good in white, but i can't imagine a white elise being very pretty in white. when a friend bought his elise they said they wouldn't order them in white and if someone really wanted one that colour they would have to go to another dealer.
saw a light pink C class merc once - that was never a good idea.

Am i the only one that thinks red can look crap. iIs all about the shade. Pick the right shade of red and the car can look great get the worng one and it can look cheap and plasticy. I had a red sport for a while and thought it looked lame. It wasn't a rich enough red, needed to be darker. Also Rover 220GTis look good in BRG but naff in red.

Agree with AllanB that red can look naff on quite a few cars, especially as they get older and fade at different stages.
Personally would nover buy a car in red.
Went with mate to pick his Clio up as some one hit side of it, paint guy could not even match red on a 2 month old car FFS ! Was told its a hard colour to match !
Colour hate most on cars in that burnt orange / beigey colour, that was almost popular three years ago, seen a few saxos / seat ibizas in this colour and it looks terrible.
