H-reg Fiesta XR2 80k for 600quid??!!!.....

I must agree about insurance. Despite having a group 20 car (at the time) and 7-8 years no claims, I was still getting stupid quotes for an E-reg XR2 (CVH) to be used as a runaround.
As someone broke into the car and wrote it off, I guess I can see why insurance companies are not keen to insure them. They attract the wrong people and ARE mainly driven by idiots because they feel faster than they are, so people drive like they are in a sports car!

8v (G-J) is a dog, engine is noisy but OK, handling is rubbish with a capital R.
The 16v is a completly different car - nice engine, good handling but these were from J/K reg onwards I think. The 16v is identical (except for some minor engine tweeks) to the RS1800.
(edited to say I have owned a 8v XR2i and a RS1800)

Would this be a good buy as a cheap runabout to have alongside my Scoob, or will it end costing me loads of money in repairs etc. Are they reliable, anyone had any experience with one?
An views, help, advice appreciated!

Is it a CVH or Zetec? Zetec is 16V. The CVH is a bit pants, they use oil, rattle and smell but Zetec are cool
I have an si which is much the same as the 16V XR2 and it's a cracking car, really good fun plus I keep up with Scoobs in it
Points to look for,
They eat front wishbone bushes but it's only 40 quid or so for a new arm.
The rear roll bar brackets snap, not serious, I fixed mine last night for under a tenner and less than 20 mins.
Check round the door rubbers, especially near the sills for rust, check round the fuel filler too, you'll be lucky to find one that hasn't gone there!
All in all they're fun cars, not the fastest thing in the world but they do handle well and it's only 600 squids, peanuts compared to a scoob
Have a look at fiestaturbo.com it is a bit lax power though
Good luck

Well, personally id go for a mondeo (now that i have one ) as i saw a belter out there last week, a 94 L reg GLX (ABS, heated front screen, elec drivers seat, heated!, front fogs) with full ford service history, 1 owner from new in a lovely metallic red with 53k on the clock and the price for this bargain (as GLX's are pretty hard to come by) as 995!! yes, just nine hundred and ninety five quid! (1.8ltr petrol).
Better than an expensive xr2i which would cost you more to insure as its a hot hatch and virtually the same performance but without all the goodies you get on a monditto

good litle cars that can take some abuse.I got given an XR2 last month with only 70 000 on the clock, and my other one only cost me £100. I can't see them going for much unless they're pretty special!(oh 'I've got one in the for sale section for £2000,But it's a rally car and cost me £4000+ to build last year!) go and get on from the freeads for £300.
