Has anyone had any experience of these Rover 200 Sdi TD's?
I know you can get them cheap, and their performance is ok for an early diesel. Thinking of buying one for commuting (or a 306hdi).
What are they like for reliability, and can they cover big mileage?
If not, does anyone know of a Rover forum I can ask, cheers

Hi mate,
Had a 200 sd (non intercooled slow one) as a company car, did 80k miles in a year including trip through Europe to Sicily and it never missed a beat even though I thrashed the **** out of it.
Throttle cable snapped @70k miles and apart from the usual servicing and copious amounts of tyres and brakes it was trouble free.
Good car for what you're after.

Buy the intercooled (105bhp) one, NOT the 86bhp version. Girlfriend had the latter as a company car for 3 years and hated it as the engine was noisy and not that economical when thrashed (ie most of the time)
I like 200s (got the parents a 1.8 VVC) but get the more powerful version please!

Cheers for the advice, of course I would only be interested in the 105bhp version. I actually sell company fleet cars on behalf of a major fleet company so it will be trade price with a 12 months warranty. I'm getting missed reviews from mates though, but they've never used one, just because its an old rover they diss it. The good thing is, I can see their full history on the PC including tyres etc, so now how its been treated.
I'm favouring a 306Turbo D (Hdi) becuase we do have many back with decent spec, and its to replace the wifes Gti-6 anyway (my Pulsar is my main toy) but haven't rulled out the 200 yet. I have an relative that's done 180k (yes 1-8-0!) with a 306 so I know they can stand up to really high mileage, if a bit rattley, but they're just not a quick as the 200 (105).

Used to have the 105bhp one. Fine for motorway driving - mid range torque was good and 50mpg as well. One of the best performing old style (non common rail etc) of diesel engines.
Not fun to drive though and very front heavy. Never went wrong though and had it for almost 90k. Only blip was the jubilee clip loosend on power steering fluid.
