I'm not very mechanically minded so you'll have to forgive me if these are stupid questions!

My girlfriend has over filled her car with oil and I need to empty it. It is a Ford Ka. Can I attempt to empty part of it, or should I just empty the lot and start again?

Also, does anyone know how easy this is on a Ford Ka, and how much oil should be in there in the first place?

Thanks,

Steve

Wink

I have a workshop manual for my girlfriends old KA in front of me and they should have 3.25 litres of oil including the filter. Just drain some out and check the dipstick (not her ) Any other questions just ask because I have the manual here

Cheers Paul.

Ive just asked my Dad about it and he said I shouldnt bother. If it was loosing oil in the first place (which it was because there was virtually nothing in it and it was done at its service 9 months ago) then I should just leave it and it will lower itself. He said it should only be a problem if it was "slashing oil all over the shop". He knows a fair bit about cars so does this seem right?

Cheers

Red face

Steve

How far overfilled is it? I wouldn't recommend driving it if it's overfilled by alot. Do you know where the leak is coming from?

Nope. I just assumed it is a Ford thing as I had a Mondeo that used to loose oil and my mates Puma did the same thing. Its about as far over as the distance between the two marks - if you get what I mean.

Cheers

Steve

P.S. Bloody fast reply by the way!!

I would say that it's about a litre overfilled and therefore would drain that litre out. Too much oil will cause engine damage so I would drain it.

My puma uses oil too BTW

So is it easy enough to just drain a bit out and then stop draining - do you just loosen a plug rather than removing it all together?

Steve

Put a bowl or something under the sump and undo the plug, drain about a litre out and refit the plug (this can be messy so wear gloves if needed) and then check the level and top it up

Easy
