I've raced 2 of these now, and one of them pi$$ed all over my S2000.

What's the score with these ugly bag of bollcks?

Depends mate, there are some standard examples around ~230-250bhp but most have a boost tweak to take them up to 280-300bhp. Engine rebuilt/ big turbo jobbies are 380bhp+ and you will know which these are!

Mine is estimated to be around 330bhp, quick little cars if they've been looked after, 4wd so have high transmission losses but they do grip well around corners

The one that this engine is going back into will be a bit nippy.

As skid says, the one with that engine will be nippy...and might be at totb.

On the subject of Puslars, depends what spec, but IF they are tuned right with decent setup, then they can surprise a few. Before someone really slags them off as it always happens on here, tuners and owners are starting to know how to get the best our of them now and just becuase you know of someone who has wound the boost up and its popped a piston doesn't mean they are unreliable. I thought i'd get that in before someone says it. Owners know the correct way to do it now, and fuel setup is most important.

Re an S2000 (love em btw).......i've already surprised a silver one on the A41 beforehand with 1bar boost (290bhp with top mount and unichip etc), but the GtiR's "standard (220bhp)" 0-100 is about the same as the Honda's anyway... about 14secs, their 1/4 miles are slightly quicker. So a modified one will be quicker.

They are fairly grippy but you really need bigger wheels with wide tyres and alot of suspension mods to keep up witht likes of the new Evos today. Not to mention 4/6 pots.

BTW, there was a dark blue/black Sti (4/5) iirc following me (black puslar) up the road out of Watford on early Sunday 1st June, probably on the way to the pod, I had a cold engine but stupidly put my foot down when you were behind, we were the same going up the hill, even though my boost controller was backing boost off (probably due to cold engine as I just literally puled out of my house...but couldn't resist oppps). I hit the brakes when I hit a certain speed but you carried on. Nice car. Anyone on here?

No-DP.I would have been impressed if you'd recognised it by the shade of white paint on the walls though.

yo, i take it thats bruces 2.2 stroker? on par with my m8 stuart rawlinsons stroker, just having his motec mapped at minute,it will be stupidly quick when its done, it could leave my sti when both cars running 1 bar.they get the power down on take off v-well hence the 1/4 times they make.
i now have evo 5 ,but any one running less than 300bhp needs to show them respect, and slag them off at your own peril.
Dug.

It doesn't surprise me that these cars can really shift, I quite like the idea of owning a car like that. Looks a bit old, dodgy but shifts like **** off a shovel :O) Another similar small hot-hatch I've seen was manufactured by Mitsubishi, anyone know what its called ?

I own an S2000 though and when the sun is out and I got my roof down and shades on I'm really not so bothered about 0 - 100 times, or whether someone can beat me off the line/round a corner.

Wouldn't mind one of these japanese q hatches as a second car though, whats the insurance like on a modded GTi-R ?

Dugg - insurance is about the same as an imported scoob....and so are the running costs and economy....so they are hardly the same to run as an everyday hatch.

And as I said, I like the S2000, (the new Z4 has copied some of its lines!) its a great looking sports car which revs like crazy. I bought the Gti-R becuase its one of the "fastest accelerating cars peer pound" you can buy, its ugly but in a brutal kind of way.

It has its flaws but its an old car now and even scoobs have evolved many times since they arrived, so Pulsars also need improving, i.e uprated brakes, intercooler, wheels, more boost (and clutch!) and some suspension mods will get you a fine pocket rocket comparable with the fast toys of today. At this stage costs are still reasonable, but to go further i.e. a new gearbox and rebuild with forged pistons and higher boost will make it really fly and get you 11sec 1/4's....but a high cost.
