NBW,

Have you got the VW sports suspension and 17"s?

I found the same on my old V5 Golf. In the end I just changed the dampers and it was better, but not perfect.

AMD did most of the work on my Golfs Suspension

H&R springs Work well with Bilsteins. I've recently added a Neuspeed anti roll bar to the standard rear anti roll bar set up
its dramaticly reduced body roll even after having the lower h&r and bilsteins in place. I kind wish i had tried this on its own first.

Hi Tim,

Can't help but might be interested in the old kit if you remove it. We've a 110 tdi and it's dismally soft and wallowy. Thinking about a set of Bilsteins but would consider your kit if the price is right.

Kevin.

Question

How about the suspension from an Octavia RS? Should fit straight on, fairly firm and being a heavier car should sort you out nicely at a reasonable price.

Too hard - it's beyond belief, you lucky, lucky *******s !
What I wouldn't give for suspension that was too hard.
Wife's got an X reg PD115 & I've actually looked to see if they fergot to put the dampers in - it's like a jelly ! Body roll & general composure at any kind of speed is verging on the dangerous.
If it was my car I'd have uprated it years ago but wifey doesn't seem to mind.
Great car - let down by non existent 'suspension'.
And they marketed it as the diesel GTI - yeah right, shame they skimped on the suspension - must be out of the 1.0L Polo parts bin.
Anyway (rant over) seeing as we may be buying it shortly (co car at the mo) if any of u with suspension that's too HARD want to swap (he he) or are chucking it out in favour of softer stuff I'll take the current setup off you.
Mail as per profile.

Too hard? Nah too soft mate. Had the standard stuff, swapped to H&Rs and Konis, were worse than the standard stuff, so put tarmac rally Ledas on with the H&Rs, not good enough so swapped the springs for the standard ones, much better. Now awaiting a set of KW Varient 3s made to order with linear springs oh and some uprated bushes.

I've just had uprated bush's and an S3 lower brace put on and it has created torque steer that wasn't apparent before.... i Hope its the brace causing it - don't see why it would be the Bush's

Thought it would help with the Jabba big turbo conversion that its having done at the moment :-)

If anybody facies a KO4 & milltek downpipe with sports cats. let me know.

Cool

:-) was due to be ready tomorrow but the milltek cat is the wrong size for Jabba's Downpipe, they changed them slightly in 2001 annoyingly.

Should be a laugh when its done - Jabba say the head design on the earlier 1.8Ts is better for power but not quite as good for torque
can't wait to see what it revs to..gone for the 360 bhp option with boost controller - doubt i'll run it that high but should be fun fot the odd blast

Not trying to be funny.

But "sometimes" the front suspension blocks dont get removed when the car is Pdi'd. They are small circular plastic shapes on the actual strut inside the spring. Normally a bright colour. You'll have to lift the dust boot up to see. They are put in by the factory to stop the car moving about too much whilst its on the boat coming over. And hence wearing them before deleivery. (Understand?) They restrict the suspension travel, and it can be quite hard with them still in place.

Also check your tyre pressures.

HTH

Cool

As usual a cornucopia of opinions

May be I should have qualified 'too hard'. I think I mean over-damped (or over sprung?) e.g.

Example 1:

When the back wheels come off a speed hump at low speed, it seems like there's hardly any compliance.

Example 2:

You go round a bend at even moderate speed and it rolls way too much.

We've done about 500 miles this weekend up to the NEC and then to the Peak District, and the ride/handling is the only thing I can fault. Even still got nearly 1/4 tank of diesel left!

My MY00 Impreza with Eibachs had a much more compliant ride yet roll was better controlled......

Still thinking on the H&R/Koni/Eibach combo, trouble is everyone seems to have a different opinion of what to do on these cars. With the Impreza (with the budget I had) there was no question but to fit Eibachs.

Ah, well, will think on....

Cheers
Tim

If you want to eliminate roll, fit anti-roll bars.

Question

Any recommendations on what to do to the suspension on my Golf PD150?

It's one year old now and the only thing I can fault is the ride - it is too hard without the benefit of good handling. Plus, I think even with VW 'sports' suspension and 17's it still sits 10-15mm too high (not a great fan of the 'slammed' look!).

I've spoken to AMD and they've recommended H&R springs, Koni dampers and Eibach anti-roll bars. This all sounds very tasty but is also quite pricey.

Any recommendations from fellow Scooby-PD150 migrants.

Cheers
Tim
