Just after some opinions really, have had a problem with my gf's corsa as below.

Car was running rough, stalling taking long time to restart throwing out loads of black smoke. We called the RAC out who said it was a connection on the back of the lamda sensor, cleaned it up and it was running okay.

Anyway, couple of days later car is playing up again, this time the engine mangement light comes on and stays on, put it into Vauxhall dealer who run fault codes which say the Exhaust Gas Regulator valve ?? needs replacing, which they did at a cost of £250. Got car back seems to be running okay.

Anyway that was 6 weeks ago and gf had been complaing that the car was still not running right - me thinks paranoid gf, stop worring about it.

Took it for an MOT on Friday, whilst it was there, car would hardly start, idled like a p1g and kept reving really high even thoug i wasnt touching the accelerator, failed emissions on 10%.

took it back to vauxhall who have phoned back this morning to say it is the coolant temp sensor that is faulty and needs replacing at a cost of £160.

Now my gripe to the dealer is pretty obvious now, when it went in the first time for the problem, they checked the fault codes, replaced the EGR and ASSUMED job done, when in fact they dont seem to have found or solved the cause of the problem. I am assumin that if it is the coolant temp sensor then it will only become and issue as the care gets hot.

I have told them to do the work as we need the car back today, but interested in opinions as to where i stand on this ??

Cheers
Rich

Thumbs down

sorry, no comeback.

similar thing with an oil leak on an escort years ago - took to garage, asked for a quote for fixing the leak - they wouldnt, saying basically they would estimate which part needed replacing but if that was done and didnt solve the leak, they were not responsible. they only guarantee to replace the part you pay them to do, not to solve a problem/symptoms.

that was a main dealer too. after a few replaced bits and no, joy, i just lived with it.
