Mazda RX8 engine size

Well, if you look simply at the displacement, then its a 1.3, as you have two "cylinders" in the form of the rotor housings, that are 654cc each.
But as a normal boinger engine fires on every other stroke, and the rotary fires on every rotation, this would essentially make it a 2.6.
Thats how I understand it anyway, but im no mechanic.
I suppose the important part is that you have an engine the size of a beer barrel, thats very light, that can produce big power. Thirsty though.

Good stuff, I recon there's so much scope for developement, and if more people pay attention to it, it'll get that development.
I love rotaries, very smooth power delivery, and from a physical size and weight respect, they are a 1.3, and thats where it counts.
Piston engines have had many years of input and developement from every engine manufacturer in the world to get them where they are now. They didnt start off fuel efficient, or light weight, its taken all that to get to that stage.
Rotaries have been largely ignored, but the RX8 may change that, and even without all the developement and interest the piston engine has enjoyed, the rotary is still a superb unit.
