Skoda Felicia!!
My young lady has a 1.6 GLXi. It goes fairly well, really nicely weighted power steering, cheap to insure and reliable It's a bit wobbely when pushed really hard (only when she isn't looking )
They can be made to look quite cool. OK the lights are a bit OTT but it give you an idea.

this is for a mate, his options at the moment are;
civic lsi
306 xsi
clio 1.4
can anyone think or any other cars that he could get, his criteria is: not vauxhall or ford, no higher than 1.6, quick n sporty, good mpg, not too expensive to insure and have a good range of colours.
