Hi Everyone
I haven't been on here for a while but I need your help.

My X-type has developed a thunking noise which is progressively getting worse, every time I go over a bump no matter how minor.... THUNK! THUNK! THUNK!... for a new car it's beginning to sound a bit like my dear old Cavalier did when she turned 10 years old.

However seriously, any ideas, it seems to be coming from the driver's side back end. We have examined most of the obvious but Paul is putting her over the pit on the weekend to have a good look but if anyone can point us in the right direction we would be very grateful.

She is going in in a couple of weeks as it's been recalled and they are so patronising at this place that I would like some idea of what it might be... like last time when the Engine Control Module failed.

i would seriously avoid driving it though!!!

Sounds like a suspension mounting or joint bushing has failed, so that instead of cushioning the bump, the shock is being transferred to the car by the slack bushing.

Glad to see that Jaguar's policy of letting the customers finish the quality control programme is still alive and kicking

My boss' 3-litre X-type has had many maladies (new autobox "brain", aircon compressor failure, alloy wheel corrosion etc) but no suspension problems.
