Honda S2000 whips Imprezza Butt
#1
Well well well managed to whip a Scooby butt on both fast dual and the twisties in the dry
Even with 4WD 'advantage' I was comfortable able to lose it in the twisties and once my VTEC came in the Scoob just couldn't live with my pace
I thought an Imprezza would have been tougher competition????

it looked pretty standard to me but I was expecting even a standard Scoob to have been all over the back of me??? The magazines slate the handling of the S2000 but for me it's a dream....no understeer and I think this is where I was gaining I could brake late and the car would turn in on a dime...the Scooby just seemed very slow going into the corners and not punching out as I fast I was expecting
I was just really really surprised

Not really that surprising
S2000 low transmission losses
Scooby HUGE transmission losses, but massive amount of grip

On a more serious note, let's compare (std turbo scoob).
Acceleration is gonna be very similar
In the dry an S2000 is gonna be a bit better
In the wet the scoob will be better
One missing factor though (and is always missing in 'beat in the twisites' comments) which is braking. The S2000 is better than the scoob in braking (apparently the S2000 is the best braking car this side of a 911 turbo! gotta find out where I read this though - Evo I think - stats anyone?). So even if the scoob could outcorner or outperform the S2000, it would be braking earlier and losing time that way.
Another point is that there are so many variants of the Scoob that to compare a scoob is meaningless without knowing which one it was. Even more pointless argument is to say 'well, a modded scoob is faster' as if you can't modify other cars too!
Anyway, regardless etc. - zero_to60, what are you doing racing family cars?
(I appreciate this is a bit of a silly wind up thread but I thought a little serious input might be appreciated )

Definately down to driver ability most of the time.
My experiences with my Scooby (Modified lightweight WRX - So a quick one).
Audi TT 225 demolished in a straight line twice and they were both trying hard. However any idiot can drive fast in a straight line. I came across one on a very twisty B road and it was being driven properly. There was nothing in it, a very capable car. I only realy had a great advantage on straights.
Only tried It on with a 2000 once on a B road and left it for dead. However with a different driver behind the wheel it may well have stayed with me.
I once came across a modified escort also on a B road. It was very early in the morning again on an empty B road. The Scooby wasn't running that well and I wasn't driving at my best, but excuses appart this bloke stayed with me. I expect he was probably a better driver than me. It's horses for courses really and alot is down to the driver.
Best wishes
Steve

thing about the S2000 is that it has a reputation for punishing mistakes by the driver and going into hedges backwards....Consequently many S2000 pilots are 'afraid' to push it unless in a straightline
I take my S2000 by the scruff of it's neck and rag it....it really does respond well to a firm hand

I agree with Zero to 60. I had an S2000 and I have also had a scooby (MY98 Prodrive) and I believe the S2000 in the dry is a more capable car.
If you drive it very hard....and really punish it you should be able to keep with most cars on a b road.....

I have to admit that the S2000 is in someways the strangest car I have driven in that if you drive it gently it's easier to 'get it wrong'
To me it doens't make sense that the harder you drive a car the more secure it feels????
Wonder if it might be weight transfer i.e braking at the last minute before turn in transfers weight to the front to aid turn-in (just got to be ready to catch the tail) and then once through the apex hard on the power to shift the weight over the driven wheels to aid traction and stablity
There's a lot of armchair drivers out there who've never driven an S2000 and believe all the bull**** written about the S2000 not handling well

With comparable drivers an S2000 should be quicker in the dry than a UK300.
The only advantage the UK300 will have is traction (not an issue in the dry once rolling) and torque/weight (again, not an issue if both are "on it" ) I'd bet the Honda can generate more lateral grip.
Honesltly, the amount of ill informed cack some of you spout about "scoobs in the twisties" and "grip" just defies belief.
My old 00 Integra was quicker in the "twisties" than my MY99 Scoob. The teg was quicker full stop than a buyeye over about 40mph (in otherwords when the 4wd traction advantage was negated).
If it was my S2000 and I couldn't have the better of a bugeye (be it UK300 or whatever) in the dry, in the conditions described, I'd be taking it back to Honda for being faulty.
I've driven both. Don't believe everything you read in the mags

Cheers Diablo
yeah my post was not designed to be a red rag to the Scooby drivers...just that I never expected that the Honda would be 'competitive' in a country lane situation against any Scooby...I primarily bought it for the engine and the looks not for it's point to point ability. I have just been very surprised by it's ability to go from A to B as quickly as it does
I just can't understand where some of these journos are coming from when they say the S2000 is tail happy....240bhp through the rear wheels and no traction control...what the **** do they expect??
