Lotus Elan-best FWD handler ever?
#1
Saw one of these yesterday for the first time in ages, I remember them being hailed as the best handling FWD car ever at the time.
anyone here had one or can comment from experience?
must be quite cheap to buy now ?

I have had one since 95 and i wont sell it for the world, i had an impreza in 98 and it's long gone, not saying it's better before someone starts but it is definatly more special in so many ways.

The driving is a bit uninvolving is the verdict in retrospect by most magazines. If it was such a great car it would have been a much greater success, I'm afraid it wasn't. But yep, it was called the best handling car at the time. As was the ITR at its time, as is the Clio cup by now and many more in between...

And also to the 306 GTi which up until Saturday I owned. Thr handling on that thing was truly stunning.
Do you remember when Top Gear used the 306 (along with an M5 and several other cars) to see which was the best handling car you could buy?

Corrado VR6 also known as the best FWD ever.
I'd say that it's between the Corrado and the Integra. Then it's down to preference as the VR6 is very smooth cornering and the Integra a bit more stress on yer spine but does the job.
What on earth were Lotus doing designing a front wheel drive in the first place? Imagine Porsche, Lamborghini or Ferrari having a FWD car LOL

I drove a Clio Cup recently and fcuked if i could keep the thing in a straight line over a b-road..... Awful..... but it did feel just as planted as the impreza and made me look like a learner at every junction...... bo**ox to it 4wd any day.

My mate bought an absolute minter a couple of months ago from the Lotus show.
10k on the clock in 8 years, FLSH, and not a mark on it.
Cost £14+, but a Lotus dealer has already offered to buy it off him for more as it is so rare to find one in mint condition.
Great to drive too and quick.
