how fast is the amg merc S55 ???

bdrought- it was definately a 4 door saloon m8.
I was tempted to try and keep up as much as I could but he was way too dangerous, the way he tailgated every car in the outside lane.
Wonder how they handle in the wet ??

Had one up my tail last wed on the motorway, was pulling away on the corners but was quick on the straights, gave up and let him pass for fear of losing my licence.

very fast.
i was following one the other night and i can say i have never seen anything move so fast as it did. i know my 172 is not even going to be near that car at all but i thought it would be good to see if he would raise to the bait, which he did. i have never seen a car accelerate with such speed, great to see.

clarence- it was the current 4 door s-class amg 55, it looked very nice indeed and expensive.
davyboy-- I was coming off the m77 onto the a77 (not sure if you know the area) in glasgow, and on the a77 round the bends I was pulling away, he was behind me for about 15 miles, but once we came to a long straight, I pulled in to let him pass.......he tailgated the car infront of him then gunned it once the other car pulled in.

The pre-03 model is easy meat for me... on any road... mainly due to that dreadful compromised rear suspension and lack of mid-range poke... sit behind and push the owner/driver harder and harder into fast bends and watch the rear suspension 'jack' itself up (hahaha) and you'll understand...
However...
The 500hp 03---> onwards model has 'proper' real modern notional locii top and bottom Wishbones and these cars can now handle real power... hence the 130hp hike!!!... and behave like they should... they even taughtened the Monocoque by using the 'enfold' system of flexure control...
The latest AMG55 will give me a hard time...

Not necessarily, the CL coupes also have the star built into their grille, and are available with the same engines as the S-class saloons, and will soon get the CL65 AMG with 650bhp and 700+lbft of torque.....

Had a play with one of these in the past in my STi V6 (340bhp) and have to say I was no match. The AMG is bloody awesome, I have giving a lot of cars a run for their money but this thing was somthing else, never seen anthing like it.
Anyone seen these Brabus and Kleeman versions? horrendous power and torque figures

Currently the fastest Merc is the new E55 with 480 bhp. Soon to be walked all aver by the amg version of the 600 engine.

Gary C, the E55 is faster than the SL55 or any other for that matter. It is lighter and is faster to 60 and 100. The SL carries lots of weight with its hard top. I know, my friend has both.

churchwa- is the E55 ur reffering to the w124 shape or current shape ??
The w124 E55 seems to be depreciating pretty fast so was wondering if the engine is similar to the ones used in the current SL, S-class.....

I was doing quite well against one of these then missed 3rd gear. At that point he must have decided to put the pedal about half way down and anihalated me. The engine noise was something else, but the way it moved made my jaw drop.
Bloody great sight though!

To be honest im not exactly sure, I remember it had AMG 55 on the back but didnt catch much else. 2 young lads were in it, buggers
Sounded like an F1 car. Its interesting how most cars you hear the exaust note, but on these the engine drowns everything out!
At the time I was in a 270 BHP MY99 scoob.
