What engine for 106..

I have a change to buy a Peugeot 106 1.1 1999 very cheap.
Never been crashed.
What options have I got ?. Looking for about 160bhp.
Would a XE 1600 fit or 306 gti engine fit ?.

I think I'm right in saying you'd have problems trying to fit the 306 engine.
Probably easy enough to find a 106gti engine and tune that - 160 should be achievable,

Stick in the 1.6 16v used in the VTS and 106 GTI. These can get to 160bhp and if you want to go really nutts Matt Dale from SSC just got over 200bhp at the wheels from his Supercharged VTS

A quick look on peugeot-gti.net reveals this in the for sale section:
106 gti engine. s reg appx 45000miles on clock.
peugeot rebuilt the engine appx 4000 miles ago and also had mods undertaken 2000 miles ago which include, road rally cams, stage 3 head, rev limiter raised/removed.
comes complete with just about everyting from under bonnet, engine, box, driveshafts, ecu, loom, fan (radiator sadly got broke in transit back to my house)
ud just need an exhaust manifold and air filter.
£1000, the cams and head work cost me appx £1100 give or take a few quid
