Vauxhall astra diesel estate... anyone owned one?
#1
Can anyone out there point out the flaws/weaknesses of Vauxhalls Isuzu engined diesels? Obviously they're cack to drive, I've been able to work that one out already(!), but my DIY needs are now pressing, so can anyone tell me what are the common things that go wrong on these things? What should I look out for? How much do they really cost to run? Was it bearable to own while you had it? Thinking about a '95-'97 car....
Many thanks!

I used to run a Cavalier as a taxi and that had 290,000 miles on the original engine. The problem was the interior was worn more than the engine. If you change the oil regularly, like any car it will go on for years. At 290,00 miles I was still seeing 40+ MPG and ran sweet as a nut....If only they put those sort of engines in newer models.

As above, all late 80s (88-0n) to about 1994 Vauxhall Motors were bullet proof. The Isuzu Diesel will run and run. The only things they are a bit prone too is
Starter Motor failure at high Mileage
Alternator failure ( very expensive as they have an integral vacuum pump that also has to be bought as well)
Head Gasket at very high mileages.
Hope that helps.
