Nah, it looks even rounder, and going by the pregression from MK1 -> MK4 it will be EVEN heavier which means they will have to put an even BIGGER engine in it to make it move!!
Go for a new A3, sharp looks, initial write-ups indicate that the handling should be precise too with good feedback through the steering... Also, its only going to be a wee bit more expensive than a Golf and the residuals will out do the Golf in the long run.

Did I say anything about it being the new GTI ?!
I was merely pointing out the fact that the biggest engine in the Golf today is the 3.2 V6 which is TWICE the size of the 1.6 that was in the original flagship Golf which was the GTI...
Calm down son... And read the post properly!!!

I DON'T NEED TO CALM DOWN THANKS
YOUR POST IMPLIED THAT THE ONLY GOLF THAT HAD ANY GO NEEDED AN ENGINE TWICE THE SIZE.....
AND I MERELY POINTED OUT THAT A 1.8T ISN'T MUCH BIGGER THAN A 1.6
THE ONLY DIRECT COMPARISON BETWEEN A MK1 AND A MK4 IS THE GTI
NOT A V6 4 WHEEL DRIVE

I disagree with you...
The direct comparison that I was trying to outline to you, and any others who were interested, was that the Flagship model for the Mk1 was the GTi, now the Flagship model for the Mk4, is that the GTi, NO, its the R32... I was comparing the top of the range Golfs today with the top of the range Golfs back then...
You obviously do need to calm down, take it easy mate, you made your point (I think ) and I definately made mine...

P.S - In standard/factory trim the 1.8T is NOT that fast at all, even in 180bhp Anniversary form... So, to make it move with any urgency (straight from the factory), you do need a big engine, hence why VW put the 3.2 V6 into the R32 and not a tuned up 1.8T...

why don't you **** off back to the golf forum instead of shouting boll0cks on here?
The 1.8T is a lardmobile- there are only two golfs that were ever any good.
The MK1+MK2 GTI especially the MK2 16V. All the others are sad fat assed shopping trolleys.
