Congrats on the 1,000 posts.

Since you'd be viewing the 968 on April 1st I take it you weren't serious then?

A mate has classic insurance on his M-plate 968CS (could even be his in your piccy it's so similar), so it can be done.

The 968 is newer, more civilised, may have climate, is probably faster from A to B if you are anything less than a wheelman of the calibre of Fangio.

You know it doesn't make sense though, especially after a big bill on the 911, unless you're suddenly going to be using it as an everyday car for loads of miles.

I'm about to buy a 944 cabrio for just that purpose (and rebuild the Turbo for trackdays) but I'd have a 911 in a second if it would fit sensibly into my life.

Obviously you will get a newer car with the 968 but you will probably get classic insurance on the 911. Difficult one and the 968 was a great motor. Think I would still be tempted with a 911 though as the car is an icon and one of those cars if you are into your motors you must own. Porbably lose nothing on a 911 as well, depreciation wise. They seem to have stopped at about 10K for the cheapest.

A 911 is a 911, if you know what I mean. A 968 is a "normal" car - but nice 968's are quite rare. It's your call

Check out the posts! It's a sign from god!

Why would you want to get rid of the 911? I think we need to meet and sample each others cars before you do any thing!

Go for the 968 - Not to sure about the colour though, but its got great handling and a true "drivers" car all round.
Much better that the 911 "slide wagon"

Thumbs up

968!!! Top drivers car and the Sport is practical too! Not sure of the colour though. As Gina said it looks good on an 911 RS but not a 968.

Wow - great to see the debate...<and this is my first corner!>
Took the 911 into AFN Porsche for a full geometry setup and asked them to perform a cylinder leakage test to give me an idea of what the engine integrity was like....

Also looked at the 968 - certainly rapid - but it didnt 'do-it' for me at all. So I'm keeping the 911

Leakage test - described by the technician as 'nothing short of remarkable' - for a car that is nearly 15 years old (1988) - 0% leakage so at least I feel reassured the engine is as good as I thought.

Talking

i've always wanted a 911, but....969s are so rare!! it now makes them (for me anyway) a more appealing car, when ever i see one i look around, 911's seem some how less appealing now.

Despite owning a 911 myself, given the choice between a 968CS and an early 911 carrera, I'd take the 968.

Technically the RHD 968 probably was the 969. Talking factory model codes rather than model names released to the public the 944 in RHD was a 945 and the turbo is a 951 unless it's RHD when it becomes a 952. The Boxster is a 986 BTW and most Porsche fans know the 964, 993 and 996 variants of the 911. The 912 was a separate model though, not a RHD 911
